Is the aircon pulley supposed to spin with the aircon turned off (belt is spinning) :chin:

The reason i ask is that at the moment the belt is spinning on the pulley, but the pulley itself isn't spinning. Gives evil squeel at startup. (n)

Any ideas?

Thanks

With the aircon off, the belt will turn, but the centre of the aircon pulley will not rotate. When you turn the aircon on (and other parameters are met), an electrically operated clutch in the aircon compressor engages, and the centre of the pulley turns. The aircon won't operate if the airtemperature (as measured by the nipple under the driver's door mirror) is below 4 deg C (IIRC), so if trying to troubleshoot, make sure it's not too cold.

It will however engage regardless of the outside temperature if you use the Max Defrost setting on the heater controls.

And you can fool the temp. thing by covering it with your thumb and forefinger, as I discovered yesterday.

(I was struggling not to say hold the nipple between thumb and forefinger!! :D )

Thanks, sounds like its working as it should then. The reason i ask is that on start up the aircon belt squeels like a banshee.:bang: I'm told that there is not much that can be done with this. Oh well, will just have to remember to wear a ski mask next time i start her up:p

Is it possible that the temp control of the motor radiotor gives a sign(pulse) when the motor temp is +- 70 degr. c to the airco pump?

Not sure I understand your question 100%, but there is a temperature sensor on the aircon to stop it operating when the system is below a certain temperature, in order to stop the system icing up.

The airco switch (interior)had a malfunction.
We made a by pass .
That is possible the problem.
The exterior temp. here is now +-6 deg c.
The clutch does'nt work.
At +- 70 deg c motor temp the clutch works.
Strange or not?
