In the above vehicle, with normal heat and aircon (not climate control), will the aircon function even when ambient temperature is low, like it has been recently. I can't hear the clutch operate but the switch lights up. I have had the free version of multiecuscan on it, once, then latency issuues and no further connection. It failed the test anyway, but maybe due to connection as stated. Will the system protect itself from engaging if there is no gas in it? My Renault does that. Cheers!

If the gas pressure is too low, the compressor does not engage.
This happens not only when there is a leak, but also at low ambient temperature.

Cheers....suspected as much but was not sure. But, should the multiecuscan work the system, irrespective of temperature ( not sure about the gas issue, maybe it will report low pressure?), and as it is recommended to operate the system periodically even in cold weather to keep seals in good shape; so are you sure- these things are contradictory. I await the full version of the software and a laptop that will allow consistent port settings to run it, lol! Many thanks and further info most welcome.

You are fully correct, the compressor should run at least once a month to prevent the shaft seal from leaking. My Kia does that automatically and still has the gas charge the factory put in 10 years ago.
My Ducato aircon has been serviced several times, yet the clutch refuses to engage at temperatures that do not normally require air conditioning.

I use free Android software to check for and clear errors; it does not look at the body computer, only the ECU basic functions.

Got a sporadic connection on the veicle with a laptop today, managed to complete aircon clutch activation. Also the gas pressure is nil Also got fans to run on both speeds, then back to not being able to connect again. Getting tired of it all.... 3 different laptops and all port settings as recommended, but still hard work. I am using the free version of multiecuscan and am unwilling to pay for full version(which I was prepared to do) if it is so finicky with connection. I am using a switched vagcom lead, also tried an unswitched one but aaaaargh! How many of you can reliably connect and disconnect and fiddle around with 100% reliability with this software? Hands up those at the back who can't....
What is the secret- latency of the port is set to 1, I have had speeds from 9k6 downwards, buffers set to lowest, only thing not tried is flow control (x on/off, hardware, none), testng the interface in setting always fails latency time by up to 11msec on one or 2 parameters too; so who has the answer? Cheers.
