I have a 53 plate Stilo JTD, bought in december and the airbag light has always been on. It comes on as soon as the car does its self check, saying 'Airbag Failure', then pings again when you set off driving saying 'Stop Engine'. Tried cleaning the connectors under the seats to no avail. I've just scanned it with FES and here are the results:

3C, Front Crash Sensor, Interference detected/faulty signal, Intermittent, 8

OE, Side airbag driver, Value too high, Intermittent, 147

OE, Side airbag driver, Open circuit, Intermittent/Present, 170

O2, ECU Supply voltage, Value too low, Intermittent, 160

Can anyone help me make sense of this?

i had this too, i changed the whole seat, removed the actual connectors from the housing, cleaned them and then crimped them tighter so that the connectors had a tighter fit,

seems to of sorted the issue for the time being but mine included the OCS pad and B-Pillar curtain too

try the connectors first, as I said I removed them from plastic housing (cut a pin from old seat) clamp the connector slightly, insert pin a few times then clean with electrical contact cleaner, re-connect everything and try that before getting a new seat

I have
pASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB O C
Front passenger weight sensor internal errors
drivers SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB valve too high
control unit power supply valve too low
drivers SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB o c
pASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG SQUIB valve too high
passenger airbag explosive charge 2nd stage valve too high

Im worried as Ive heard the new MOT rules this year will fail a car with any warning lights up

squib is the b-pillar airbag (give the contacts a good clean and do as I done (sorted) (connections are in the boot)
weight sensor was same as mine (module of eBay, £30 sorted my issue)

passenger airbag is just that, the one in the dash (try cleaning contacts, if no luck then change airbag)

Ok thanks, I'll try again with the connectors. Can anyone shed any light on the crash sensor or ECU faults?

A little correct information for you:-

"Weight sensor" is the sensor built into the passenger seat cushion.

"Squib" is the explosive detonator on all electronic airbags, the squib is the part that actually creates the explosive expansion of the gas, the term refers to explosives.

"Side Airbag" refers to the airbags positioned in the seat frame (back rest) some cars have two (in front) others have four.

B pillar airbags are actually called curtain or window airbags

Passenger or Driver refers to the position

"Front crash sensor" is also called the Front Impact Sensor, this is positioned on the front cross member behind the front bumper.

Side Impact Sensors are also fitted on either side of the vehicle near the seat belt mountings

Open the bonnet and check arround the engine bay for any signs of crash damage, especially looking for cracked or different coloured paint, new sealant etc, all of these faults together point towards airbag activation, the airbag system is designed to be a one show pony and can self destruct on use so high low or open circuit airbags, ecu faults and the crash sensor interference could be from damaged sensor or wiring,

not entirely true, my car has been in an un-recorded crash, (front bumper has been replaced and glass inside the car on seat runners) yet i had high readings etc, cleaned all connections and removed the OCS which was replaced with a dummy module and now i have no faults

I said 'can' depends on the extent of the damage and force of the accident, many cars can suffer significant damage and not deploy any airbags because the force wasn't enough, other cars can have very significant accidents and the airbag module try's to deploy but the system fails to work (you can't exactly test the function of an airbag without destroying it) if the airbags are deployed and replaced the wiring and module can still be wrecked and throw up multiple errors.

You say you've got a new front bumper that doesn't point to a significant accident, new radiator, slam panel etc then yeah I would expect the air bags to 'maybe, deploy but not always, and glass could be from a break in rather than an accident, and the crash sensor could have errored rather than activated. If you don't 100% know what actually happened to the car you can't speculate about what should or shouldnt work.

In this case multiple errors has me thinking significant damage

Edit: as they are all intermittent you need to clear the ecu voltage low error to rule out this causing errors elsewhere in the system so check all the earths near the airbag ecu,

I know its been in a heavy accident as the front bumper support is badly bent out of shape, it will be getting changed at some point though,

Whats bent, the chasis leg or the black iron bar that goes across the front? If its the iron bar they're designed to go, I hit something at 5-10MPH with min and thats ever so slightly bent. Doesn't mean its been in a majoy impact ;)

this bar curves round the front of the car flatten it as you say yours is and significant damage would be done to the car as well, it is the first point of sacrifice so it is meant to crumple before other things.

if no damage to what's behind the bar then its not been more than a bump
