Every morning, as I feed the cats, I stck the kettle on to make myself a cup of tea ready for when I get to work which I can drink with the bacon sandwiches I get from the canteen. However, on the way to work, I have to go round a number of roundabouts, as well as some sharp turns.
Usually, my wide-based thermos type (with lid) is placed on a non-slip mat on the dashboard. However, this, coupled with the corners and roundabouts, often results in my flagon of tea careering across the increasingly sugar stained plastic shrouding.
It also drips down the doors.
...and the windscreen.

I had, for a time, put my cup in the passenger footwell, lowering the centre of gravity and meaning that the cup would hopefully stay upright at all times.

But alas, this did not prove fruitful, but mearly meant the tea soaked into the material, rather than pooling on the dashboard ready for easy mopping up with a tissue.

Does anyone know of a cup holder, or can anyone recommend me one please?

I've had a look on ebay, but they seem to be all blinged up with shiny silver plastic, and carry the incredibly laughable name "type S".

Does anyone know of any STRONG ones (I have a horribly designed thermos with a normal width base and an incredibly wide top ( How stupidly designed is this?!?!?) I can use) that will fit in the holder.

Thanks.

Why don't you just invest a bit of money on a water tight container? (provided that your tea doesn't go stone cold)

I mean unless your drinking it while driving then put it in a water tight flask and bung it on the seat or floor next to you.

This just reminded me that I haven't checked my car for a cup holder yet, is it a definite no to dark to go check right now)? Mine does have a clip on ashtray made by Fiat, clips onto the edge of the dashboard and can go anywhere from the center to all the way over the passenger's side, maybe they do a similar cup holder. I'll see if I can get a picture tomorrow, I don't think it's standard as surely they'd make it built in somewhere.

Cheers for the replies all.

Jai - Im sure I've seen something like that too. The tiny bottomed barrel I have says that it will fit most sized drink holders. It's more the sheer height that I'm worried about - if the supports on the holder isn't high enough, then the larger capacity vessel will errupt it's larger volume of liquid all over the interior of the car due to the lack of support :(

EssexUno - I could indeed always invest in a proper, watertight thermos, however, I like the option of being able to drink my tea on the move, without that having to have a screw and pop something in order to reach the sweet caffiene laden beverage contained within. I can see where you are coming from though, so thanks for the idea.

The Ran - Picture would be awesome. Thanks :)

is it legal to drink while driving:confused:

The piece of legislation wording you refer to is:

"driving without due care and attention".

I highly doubt that the police would pull over someone who, in the morning, is looking at the road, sticking to the speed limit, on a straight motorway, who was drinking.
It's the people texting or making calls on their mobiles that they worry about ;)

Same as if I were a one armed man surely? :D

1986Uno45S - Are those mugs totally watertight? I might look into getting one if they are. :)

I ment if your drinking then you aint in full control of car (like when texting) and you all know I ment that! :p

I was just being pedantic ;)

:p

I think they're supposed to be more splash proof rather than water tight. They have a little flap that swivels over the drinking hole when you're not drinking, more to prevent it sloshing about. I certainly wouldn't want to tip one upside down to find out!

I have a mini flask bought from Wilkinsons that I use to take coffee to University with me. Works a treat and I use it because I refuse to pay £1 a cup that my rip off canteen charges  The flask IS water tight and also does a very good job of keeping the coffee warm. It's still hot about 3 - 4 hours after I make it. Not only that but it only cost about £3 (y)

I got some pictures today. It doesn't seem like it grips hard enough to hold a full cup, but you could probably make something that mounts similarly and just make it stronger.

I'm sure you could do something similar with a bit of pvc pipe. Cut a section out and bend it so it's nice and tight, then attach a hoop some how to hold the cup.

MacGuyer is f*cking awesome.
There's a torrent of EVERY MacGuyver episode ever. 40gb, but well worth it :D

My favourite episode BY FAR is the "Killer Ants" (Trumbo's World is the name of the episode) in Season 1.
The special effect make me laugh even now thinking about them! :D

WARNING: The effects used in the following clip make cause you to die. Of Laughter. Please stand well back and watch at your own risk.I assume no responsibility for any lungs dislocated, or if your insides end up on your floor.

But still, in all honesty, I thoroughly enjoyed 90% of the MacGuyver episodes. Some were lame, but most are amazing. Even by today's standards.
