Bought a bravo a few days ago as some of you might know. The chap i bought it of 'a police man' said hell leave the air filter on. Looked under my bonnet and there hiding away was a K&N air filter :O.... i thought this was a bonus at first. But my old man seems to think the car is holding back and just making alot of noise, like all talk and no go....

So Yes or No to K&N.....

P.s would it be worth changing my plugs and leads so see if that makes a difference.....

Cheers

GET IT OFF the filter that is go back to the panel filter or a green cotten panel filter K&N cone is nothing but noise and very little else IMO (n)

obviously they are less restrictive and so do make an improvement. but they aren't as well designed as other kits, and are often a poor compromise.

Also you wont see much of an improvement without doing any other work. for example, although the engine can get air in faster with a k&N, if the exhuast is standard it cant get the gas out fast enough.

Tuning is all about balance imo

Sounds like a Viper.

This is the viper,

This is a carbon universal fit,

The k&n looks like this!

Hope this helps clear it up.

A lot of people, including trained mechanics, refer to any kind of induction kit as "A K&N" when in fact they probably are not. It's the same way we call vacum cleaners "Hoovers" because they were the most famous brand, so the name stuck!

If it is a universal one, check that it is attached securely and doesn't rub on anything. Also, check how the engine breather (the little pipe just below the oil filler cap) has been routed. If it has a little "K&N" style filter attached you might want to replace it with a piece of pipe that goes into the induction kit somehow, as the little filters vent the fumes to air, and they get into the heater system making the interior stink.
I also heard somewhere (prob on here,) that they were going to be an MOT fail if your car was supposed to have it routed into the intake?
