Technical Air con problem

Hope someone can help.....
The Air Con hasn't worked properly since I bought the car so didn't use it for a long time but last year I had it re-gassed at kwik Fit, they said there was no leak on it and it did work for the journey home! But it didnt work again so i took it back and he said it was empty and filled it again and again no leak was found. It worked for the journey home again.
The next day after a long journey leaving the air con running in the hope that it would cool the car the fan stuck in the "on" position and would only switch off by removing the fuse so I had to have the control unit replaced but still no air con so assuming it is empty again. The kwik Fit guy said if it emptied again there must be a problem that needed fixing.

Assuming that it isn't leaking when they are doing the pressue testing, could it be leaking from the valve?? he did point out that the valve cover was missing, would it leak without the cover or could dirt stop it from working properly if some has got into the valve? If necessary can the valve be changed easily or is it a big job?

I suggest you take it to an aircon specialist who will regass the aircon for you and add a special dye into the gas, this will help locate any leaks. Once the aircon is not working, you either take it back so he can check it out with his lamp or you buy a UV torch and hunt the leak yourself. It'll show up as luminous green.

Thats your best option and you'll know exactly where the leak is.

i just had my fiat marea weekend air con sorted out i took mine to kwik fit last year also mine had stopped working thought it might be the pump etc.

i called out these guys www.coolcaraircon.co.uk he came straight round got my air con up and running nice and cool did all the checks for leaks etc and found i had a leak on my condensser which i might need to change it cost me £59 for service well worth it

kcjones , thanks for the heads-up where -coolcaraircon- are concerned i viewed their site about 3months ago (on a recommendation) , im v glad to hear they were worth every penny , if memory serves the do a full service/re-gas and some other bits for around the £99 mark , well i know where im going when iv got the cash cos my a/c deff needs sorting .

no worries its worth it and they do repairs also etc locations are different areas but worth sending a email or give them a call
