got a y reg punto, airbag light has been on for past 2-3 years, now its part of the test i need to get it off, went to a mates garage and plugged in his scanner, comes up passenger air bag squib, low voltage?. he told me there normally under the seat, nothing there under either front seat, no wiring etc , nothing both sides. any ideas bar putting leccy tape over the warning light for the test.

Hey mate 3 choices try a different scanner to re set it pay for a new sensor to fix the low voltage or black tape as if it's not illuminated they can't fail it as the mot states it's only a fail if the light stays on good luck

With all due respect up your mate is an idiot!

The main clue here being PASSENGER AIRBAG SQUIB I have no idea where he got the idea from it has anything to do with the seats.

The problem is the passenger airbag, the thing above the glove box which says airbag on it.

Please don't let this mate of yours near it again, if he can't read what the computer says then im sure you don't want it on your conscious when he ends up in hospital picking bits of your dash out of his head because he's set the airbag off playing with it!!!

if it dont come on in pre ignition check its a fail, so covering it up wont do any good.

ops problem will be passenger exclusion switch, the looms on the early ones were faulty, an upgrade part is less than a fiver from fiat and about an hours labour to fit

thanks for the replies, he didnt say there was anything wrong with the seats, what he said was the electric conections for the airbag squibs where under the seats, dont where to look for the fiat upgraded part for the harness, any ideas where it is or the part number

ok had the car back to my mates garage, he is using a mac tools (mac scan) scanner, this is a £4000 machine with the latest upgraded software. . the following message is showing on his machine. 9 passenger airbag squib status- open circuit. will the fiat upgraded part fix this and where is the part located, dont wanna give the local fiat dealer £70 for an hours labour when the job will probably take 10 mins to fix. can do mechanical and electrical work myself.

You either have a knackered airbag, a broken wire or the airbag wiring plug has detached some how.

you really need a known good airbag you can swap in to see if the fault is with the bag or the wiring.

but. their is NO wiring under the seats for this, its all to do with the dashboard passenger airbag. the wiring for which is behind the dash. you must disconnect the battery when working on airbag systems, and you must wait a good half hour before you touch anything after disconnecting to allow the residual power to dissipate from the airbag control unit which can still trigger an airbag, even more dangerous when there is a fault.

if you don't know what you're doing you should always give the car to someone who does and accept you'll have to pay the premium, better that than serious injury from airbag deploying in your face at pointblank range,

ok had the glove box out and checked the wiring, all the connections to the airbag seem to be good, had my mate round who is a sparky and he has had his tester on the wiring, not gettin any power to the plug that goes on the airbag squib with the ignition on , is this the problem.hoping i dont have to take the dash out to fix the problem.

:bang: well if its not the wiring then its the airbag its self, that said what did your mate who is a 'sparky' use to test it? an installation tester?

so we can safely assume all the RCDs don't trip (oh wait thats in a house)

Right i am being serious now !! STOP ****ING ABOUT WITH IT!!

you won't get any power to the airbag with the ignition on, electricity makes the airbag go boom, if there were power the airbags would be fired.

Clearly you nor any of your 'mates' know what they are doing and neither are you taking any of the basic safety precautions when dealing with airbags, which are after all explosives so if you're messing about with wires behind the dash and your head in front of the airbag, you WILL ! break your neck!

please for safeties sake pay some money to have it fixed professionally (n)

fixed it, went to see another mate who uses a snap on diagnostic scanner, took him 5 mins to clear the fault . light hasnt come back on. cost me nothing. i knew i wouldnt be giving any money to the local fiat dealer for doing sweet fa

Put your key into the switch to turn passenger airbag off,nsf dash area...go side to side with key 5 times and then reset the light...may work..
