Doesn't even look slightly odd does it lol!

Admittedly about 25 minutes was spent inspecting and cleaning the caliper/pads.

It had been treated with Autoglym wheel wax before hand and I use wonder wheels/petrol/gunk to clean them-not that any of them do much mind!! Had to resort to using a hacksaw blade to chip the 1.5mm crust of brake dust off the inner rim! I've just about ran out of tooth brushes and it certainly doesn't do the lacquer any good - i.e. its brown beneath the brake dust. :-s

Note to self, don't use race pads and expect to keep the clean look for long! Doh!

god them wheels look nice when they are clean! when u gonna do the rear conversion?

Cheers Ash, they may not be the most expensive wheels in the world, but i took weeks deciding what would look right with my colour car and planned mods.
I have all the parts to do the rear conversion except the hub spacers which i found out about last week, so will have to nip back and get those.
Probably fit it all early March time, deffo ready for Donny. Need to get a set of stainless hoses for the rear to. Will get in touch with Nicos contact @Goodridge for those.

The brown discolouration damage to the laquer is because you used Wonder Wheels I'm afraid. I have the same problem and the FiatForum bods say the stuff is evil!

I have to say I agree (to late though). :(

thats one hell of a clean up... just need another day to do the other :)

is that brake dust all the way down the side of the car aswell???

Andy_sx

never heard of a power washer ?

i spray mine with cleaner leave them for 2min then power wash them, and then wack some wax on them, takes approx 15 min per wheel

@ Ozric, I cannot comment if it is the wonder wheels, what i mean is where the brake dust is forming a crust on the rim where i was chiping it off with a blade - beneath the lacquer was brown and perfectly dry!

I might give something like that a go Dan, nothing seems to shift it at all!

@ Andy, there is brake dust there but its mostly crap off Norfolks roads! In the dry weather when the car stayed clean for more than a day the front of the side skirts and wings were slghtly black with brake dust-thank god by then its cooled down and doesn't seem to stick so well. It seems all you do is add water to the dust and then re-label it as Nitromors!

re

loads of **** on the road corrodes your wheels, especially as yours have a shinier finish than a lot of wheels.

ideally you should rinse them off atleast every evening!

i woudl agree products like wonder wheels can be too damaging and can cause discoloration like you mention,

agree with above, pressure washer and spray of alloy wheel cleaner from pound land then pressure washer again used to bring mine back pretty good!

Get them powder coated in a clear finish, its pretty much anything resistant.

I'll show you what sort of finish I get from using my /degreaser and post them up ;)

@ Allan, will try foaming cleaner next and attack the other with the pressure washer-have to say i object to cleaning my car with one, but ill give anything a go on the wheels!

@Dan id be interested to see the results.

@ Tom, i was considering respraying them as at this rate they will only last about 5 cleaning sessions before they are fecked. How much would a clear powder coat cost-didnt know that clear was available. I would only do the fronts unless it they will be visibly different?

@RR, i may be a perv for spending 7 hours cleaning one wheel, but id rather do that than take the poxy thing off seven times and spend an hour each time!! Getting them over the calipers whilst the disc/spacer/hub holes are aligned and getting a bolt in is an art in itself lol!

Ben.

local hand car wash always takes the nip with me because i wont let him use wheel scrub (its clearly an acid cleaner he sprays about) on my alloys.

I find if you take the wheel off the car, and its REALLY dirty, then about half an hour with a brush and some more gentle cleaners (i'm currently a fan of AutoGlym) then half an hour with some rags and wheel wax/ polish see's them good for a month in this weather, assuming you clean the car every week. then its wheels off time again.

thats a stunning job by the looks of it, but 7 hrs? not for me thanks...
