please give me some advice, I have a smashing 1991 1.9 nad ducato motorhome, it does 60mph, come against a hill and i am down to 40 or less. my question is this, can i fit a bigger engine, or can a turbo be fitted, what model Fiat would i need to buy , could i fit a scudo lump, i can do the fitting as i am a time served engineer, or what turbo, manifold etc from what model. just need some guidance . thanks in anticipation. Paul

where does the current engine originate from, (a 1991 1.9 is not the same engine used in more modern fiats) was there ever a turbo version of your current engine?

most of the older pre 2000 diesel engines are mechanical with very little electronics to make an engine swap difficult the only limiting factors are physical space and cost.

I would be looking for a nice Iveco turbo and a company to make you up a bell housing adaptor
i had a Range Rover with a VM 2.5 turbo diesel engine fitted which when the head gaskets blew was easily replaced with a Isuzu 3.1TD from a Trooper/Vauxhall monterey

The older 1.9 Fiat turbo diesel was 1929 cubic centimeters while the newer one is 1910. There was a turbo version of the 1929 engine and it was available in the Lancia Dedra and other cars in the Fiat-Alfa-Lancia range back then. There was also a non-turbo version with about 65 HP and I'm hoping that is not what's in your motorhome.

I saw a Talbot camper van from the UK as I returned from Germany last week. It was a standard PSA (Peugeot-Citroen-Fiat) van with a Talbot badge. It may have been the same as yours or perhaps the previous generation. They were sold this way for only a few model years after Chrysler sold off it's French interests (Simca) to PSA.
