Hi

My exhaust has a leak, when the engine is at its operating tempearture. After an inspection of the exhaust system, its leaking under the braided section on the front crimped joint of the down pipe to the DPF.

I have looked online for a down pipe, but all JTD front pipes offerred, have a 3 hole triangle flange at one end and the other end have a 2 hole flange and only go up to Feb 2006 Multipla JTD Models

Mine being a Jan 2008 JTD Mjet, obviously has the new design, where at each end is a 3 hole triangle flange.

I note from 2001 to Feb 2006 pipes can be picked up for less than £40 delivered, but has anybody replaced a newer type, post Feb 2006, and where did you get it from, other than a dealer ???

Advice / info much appreciated.
 
I got a PM from the Marea forum and something a little interesting of which some of you may know more. But you could confirm on the below if you have an opinion.

I have looked at the JTD Marea exhaust is does look very similiar as does the shape of it. Anybody in the know if the above is incorrect ?
 
Don't all the JTDs have a DPF then, regardless of year?
My 02 does.

I it were me, I'd buy the earlier one, chop the rear flange off flush from both, and weld the old flange to the new pipe.
Unless the original pipe is Stainless, in which case I'd cut them approx 80mm from the flange, and find a suitable section of pipe to join them.
Slot the jointing pipe, bit of sealant and a couple of Jubilee clips, bingo!

As for the 2-bolt flange not being strong enough...:rolleyes:
You're not hanging the car from it...

Mine from the turbocharger, goes through the catalytic converter, then front flexi pipe, then the DPF with all its probes attached, then mid silencer, then a pipe, then to rear silencer, then out.

Long winded I know, but by far the biggest section is the DPF.

Sounds expensive, and long-term, a pain in the a**e (pun intended) come MOT time...:rolleyes:

DPF's go through a cycle of self cleaning, called regnerating. The probes manage this via the ECU based on I think miles done. Mine regenerates every 3000 to 4000 miles, but I do a lot of motorway, where as if you do short journeys it will be regerating 500 to 1000 miles and or clog up, then this will cause problems.

Some people here have had to do a forced regen, as there's is badly fouled with stop start driving of engine not getting warm enough. This normally involves replacing the DPF, prices vary from £300 to £800.

The other item that involves the DPF with the Multipla is oil changes, unlike the JTD where you can change the oil and filter when you service and not worry, on a JTD Multijet, the oil change interval is linked to the DPF, so when you get a blinking oil light on the dash, its not oil pressure, but time for an oil change, which can only be reset by a dealer or if you have fancy DPF software from a laptop.

At least a Fiat DPF is far more reliable than the DPF's for all VW, Skoda, Seat as they are the most problematic of all.
 
The more I know or find out about 'modern' cars, the more I'm yearning for one of my old VW Campers...

The most complicated part on those was the dimmer for the instument lights.
No fuel injection, no ABS, no power steering, no cat, no ECU, no water cooling, no electric windows/heater controls/mirrors/seat adjustment/sunroof/boot-lock . . .:bang:

Four wheels and an Engine, and only what is absolutely necessary to keep them turning.
 
For those of you who have a post Feb 2006 Diesel Multijet Multipla.

Eper part number for the front pipe in all Mjet Multipla's with a DPF is 51770422. These are made by Bosal.

Bosal's part number ironically is 51-770-422.

There are 3 manufactuers of pattern parts :

IMASAF : Part Number : 279341
SIGAM : Part Number : 12224
ASSO : 121175

The other well known pattern exhaust maker Klarius, do not make this part, due to lack of Multipla's registered and sold in Europe from 2006.

So if you ever need one, the above will help you out.
