Just had a renewal quote from my old insurer, NFU Mutual. I'm 22, 2 claims (1 being a £1700 write off claim against me), 3 points. To renew, they wanted £3800 off me.

A phone call to admiral who my mum is with, on my own it was 1300 inc courtesy car, glass and legal cover.

Just pays to phone about :)

I'm in the position where I dont really want another accident haha. So let's hope I dont need contact them

But thats what insurance is about. You buy a claims service. You wouldn't go out of your way to eat at a crap resturant if you've heard nothing but bad things about it, so why would you do the same with insurance

It all depends how likely you are to make a claim for your own car. If it's worth very little and you just want the cheapest premium, why does it matter how they'll deal with your part of the claim?

So you'd be happy if they just put something down as fault even if not? Loose your legs in an accident and they prove awkward in assisting with payout etc.

Its not all to do with vehicle value and claiming for the vehicle.

im with admiral on a multi car policy and i was unlucky enough to have 2 accidents in the space of a month last year first was just a low speed shunt in rush hour traffic so nothing serious juts head light and bumper.

admiral made all the arrangements to get it sorted and were quite good until it came to the courtesy car, as part of my policy (fully comp) im automatically entitled to one which they also told me on the phone when i registered the claim however what they didn't tell me is that they don't actually provide the car there local repair agent does and this is where the trouble starts.

when i asked the garage about the courtesy car i was very rudely told i wasn't getting one until admiral had approved the repairs on my car which could take anywhere between 24 hours and a few days and when i asked how i was supposed to get home i was told "well you shouldn't have crashed your car then it wouldn't be a problem".
needless to say i was somewhat irate by this point and decided i should leave the garage before i did something id regret so i had to get a friend to pick me up and drop me home where i then called admiral and let rip at the person dealing with my claim they apologised and within an hour there was a courtesy car dropped off at my house and id had a call and apology from the gent at the garage to, after that the car was all sorted in a couple of weeks and back home with no further issue.

the 2nd accident was a total loss i hit some diesel on the a47 at speed and ended up in the crash barrier totally wrecked the car and ended up with some seriously bruised ribs!
they picked the car up took it away and i had no hassle this time they tried to offer me a lower value for my car but i disputed it as id only had it 3 months it was mint condition pre accident full service history and very low mileage for its year (54 reg with 20k) but they agreed to give me £3400 in the end wich was only £200 less than i paid for the car.
i didnt claim for personal injury so cant comment on that but the rest was fine well except for the garage/courtesy car

We had a non fault accident in our hgt just after we got it (8 days in fact) someone drove into side of us in the snow while emerging from a junction. Insured under admiral

Car was sent for repair all new parts used all genuine fiat dealer supplied.
Courtesy car supplied and delivered to the door (vauxhalls insignia) piece of crap but did the job.
Insignia was a bit fuel hungry so they changed it for a Corsa after a week

Repairers did a poor job on the paint work so they then had to supply a car for us brand new KA for another few days

Car fixed well no problems with blame or excess or any other of the usual problems. Little issue with the repairer but we got there in the end

Admiral were brilliant.

2008 direct line insured hit and run by motor cyclist who damaged my back bumper reported to police I was stationary at the time no blame could in any way be apportioned to me but directline wouldn't pay because the other driver/rider left the scene and although I got his reg and all the details were passed on to the police he refuse liability and so I was left with the bill. Directline said I would have to pay to get the work done then they would claim it back through his insurer, leaving me £500 out of pocket.

Don't think there is such a thing as a 'good' insurance company

Just to chuck my tuppence in here...

I was previously with Aviva, last year was ~£900, this year the standard renewal letter was £730... a little haggling got that down to £603. Comparison websites were getting me figures of around £500, with Admiral being the cheapest.

The cheapest that is, until I saw QuoteMeHappy.com - I got it for £301, with £40 cashback from TopCashback (also available on Quidco), so a total of £261 !!!!

Here's the silly part. QMH.com is a wholly-owned subsidiary of... wait for it, Aviva ! The policy is of course under-written by them - same registered office, same FSA#, I believe when you call to do a claim you're actually talking to Aviva staff - it's just a different brand, yet I got my renewal for 50% of their best renewal quote - even less once i get the cashback (which was tracked within an hour of taking the policy) !

Regarding the policy, compare them side by side and the wording is almost exactly the same. Well worth a look, IMO.

They'll only insure you under certain conditions, and i believe you MUST have some sort of NCB.

The one potential drawback for some people is that they are online ONLY. Any enquiries are done online, documents uploaded/downloaded etc... but claims can be done over the phone.

Please share .

Family friend (female in her 40s) rolled her Golf on a motorway with the entire family in it about 5 years ago, on holiday, miles from home.

The incompetence of the claims dept failed to get a courtesy car to them, holiday got cancelled as a result, when it needn't have been, and then they 'lost' the car. What should have been a simple claim they managed to turn into a complete mess.

And not even a word of apology when views over the company were put to writing and sent to them.

And here you have hit the nail on the head, you simply gets what you pay for, if you're happy being online for everything except claims, then its a bargain price, but sometimes being able to pick up the phone is handy.
