Hey all further to my MOT failure, i may need to get a new/used ABS PUMP.

Mine is the ATE PUM with a part no of

465 29 968

There is also another number underneath this

10.02040167 4 (well at least thats what i think it says it quite faded...

Bravo 1.8 HLX MKII yr2000

I have found on Ebay 2 x pumps with the same 465 No but the second no does not match (links to ebay below)

Question is will either of the pumps work or do all no's have to match..???

The first link has the same pump number, but there may be some differences with the ecu, Let the seller take some pics of the connector for the ecu. It should fit and if your abs pump is only shot, you can always change the ecu to yours - if I remember right.

some of them can be taken apart i.e the ecu can be seperated from the pump but not all of them i was able to do that with my kelsey hayes unit

Hi Sven,

I'm afraid im following a process of elimination to get my ABS issue fixed, currently i have both ABS and HB light on perminately.

I know that the o/s CV joint was replaced with that of a MK1 so i need to get one for the MKII (£25 off ebay)

When this is fitted i hope the HB light will go out...

If not........

I may need to replace the sensors (can a diag be done to identify a faulty sensor?) as i dont want to go and by 2-4 sensors to find out its only 1 thats at fault...

I dont know for sure that there is anything wrong with my pump regardless of the lights indicating a fault can a diag tell me there is a fault with o/s f.sensor, fault with pump, fault with EBD. ect..

Cheers for all replys

Yes, a diag should say whats wrong and the HB and ABS light at the same time represent a problem with the EBD (electronic brake distribution)

Hi Sven,

The problem with EBD im assuming is caused by the o/s cv joint being a MKI cv joint which if im right has the metal ABS ring (this was removed to enable the cv joint to fit my car which is a MKII) i seem to recall my HB staying on after it had been fitted...

Do you have a diagram of the MKI and MKII cv joints????

i would definately say that it will be the cv joint then once fitted the abs and ebd lights should go out you will need to test drive it after fitting the new joint for the abs to retest itself.
what happens when there is a fault detected the lights will come on and when the engine is stopped and restarted the abs system does a self test and the ebd light should go out and then when the car travels faster than 5kmph the abs should go out as this is the way the system checks the wheel sensors

if the ebd light stays on then chances are it will be the pump ecu

cheers

Sven, when i bought the car the ABS light would not illuminate after a while of having the car i took the instrument panel out and saw that the LED appeared cloudy, its only just failed the MOT after 4yrs of having the car, on checking why the ABS did not light up i found that someone (previous owner/garage i bought it from) have twisted the LED so that it shorts out..

The HB light i recall coming on after the MKI CV joint went in...

I should have the new CV joint this weekend so thats a start.

Thanks all

Hi Sven,

This is the ring that was removed from the MKI CV Joint to enable it to fit to my MKII Bravo...

The link you kindly provided for the images of the CV Joint show

3673 would be what i have had fitted and the ABS ring removed, so i assume that i would need the CV joint shown in 3706.

I have removed the sensors and can see no visable damage to them but again i suppose only a diag will confirm if they are stuffed.

if yours has an abs pump then it should have the one with the abs ring something is not right there somewhere sounds to me like something was changed before you had it

what was the reason it didn't fit and you had to take the ring off ??

possible someone has changed the hub on that side to a non abs one

cheers andy

Hi Andy,

I went to a mech to get a CV Boot replaced but when the mech tried to take of the HUB nut the thread rounded and he had to replace the CV Joint the motor factors he got the CVJ from only had the one with the ABS ring on so he got that one when taking my original one out he saw that it didn't have the ABS ring so removed it from the new one.

The ABS sensors are all in place on both front hubs and rear there held in place by an alley key bolt near to the brake bleed valve. So my hubs have got to be ABS....aren't they???

Yes Karl, the one under with no ring on it. The MK2 has a different system.

But if you want to be sure, drop me your chassis number so I can look in ePER.

Hi Sven,

Thanks for your confirmation, i cant get to my chasis No right now but my reg is X269HEG if that helps...

I have just been over to Fiat (i work across the road from them) they have checked on EPER and confirmed the same...thank god, for a moment i started to beleive that i may have a mix and match braking system...LOL

CVJ from fiat £100+vat
CVJ from Ebay £25 inc del

I know where my money is going....lol

so whats the difference between the mk1 & mk2 the sven ????

yes karl you do have abs but i would guess that when the mech got a replacement he got the mk1 and not the mk2 one hence having to removing the ring
give sven your details and he will tell you the exact part you need

sven is a very clever chappy when it comes to sorting out parts

cheers andy

Cheers Andy,

Im assuming the difference is that the MKI system uses the 44 tooth ABS ring and the sprung ABS Sensors to determin speed where as the MKII System uses the an electronic method.

I guess yours would be the MKI hence why this was getting confusing...

Many thanks

Karl

MK1 has a phonic wheel - it counts the holes and with that gets the signal for the abs ecu.
MK2 has a multi-polar ring - its a magnetic ring, and with the sensor being also magnetic it detects the polar exchanges and with that receives the signal.

nope last of the fiat marea weekends 02 plate i know the 1.8 uses a different pump than the 1.6 that i have because my last car a 99plate fiat brava 1.8elx was also mk2 and the abs pumps are totally diffent i think it was a bosch system on that and the marea has a kelsey hayes

anyway glad you have managed to sort that out lets hope this cures the total abs problem ill keep my fingers crossed

cheers andy

Yeah me too, i need my car back on the road ASAP as the missus is about to drop (4weeks off)

Cheers Andy and Sven for all your input... I will report back once the new CV joint is fitted..
