Alright all. well since i got back from my hols and i have been driving around with the system on as soon as it hits a low note with the volume up very high the abs warning light comes on. it then stays on until the car has stopped and engines turned off. then turned back on and its gone. any ideas anyone cheers Danny

I'd take a wild guess and say your sub is pissing it off! After all its only a magnet, but large vibrations aint gunna do it any favours. Bear in mind that a rear, let alone a front, replacement is £85 off fiat. The system resets/checks itself when the engine is off for a prolonged period so thats why it keep cancelling the warning light!

So, maybe a few less decibels!

Ben.

Loose wire on the ABS sensor, new sensor is probably required though.

Balls, that's probably what i need.
ABS light is on perminantly - as of the past month or two. Needs to go on a diagnostic machine - which i have neither the time or money to do!

Maybe my excessive bass has totally destroyed my ABS. That'd be cooler than it just flaking out of its own accord. Poxy money draining fiat piece of, er, loveliness?

I tell you, if it wasn't for the hgt's engine note, it'd be out on its ear!

This fantastic post was written and constructed by Dean "the pissed bean".

No need for a diagnostic, just jack the car up and look at the sensors.

REALLY?!!!!

That sounds a heck of alot better (and cheaper) than going to my local fiat garage!
Is it a wind up? Can the sensors location be found in a haynes manual?

I bet i'm being gulable here - aren't i?!

I have heard of one occasion where cleaning the abs sensors has rectified a fault. How will looking at the item explain what is wrong with it-unless it is clearly smashed? The sensor comprises of a magnet surrounded by a coil encapsulated in a metal tube. Only the end of the magnet is visible.

They are located just behind the front discs on the hub-carrier and are held in place with just a single allen bolt. Bear in mind that with Fiats policy of no anti-seize compound/grease you stand little chance of removing the item without breaking it, as it rusts in place. The rears (on a HLX) go into the drum through the rear of the back plate.

A diagnostics test is £20 from fiat and will tell you precisely which sensor has a fault. Fiat quoted me 1.5 hours labour to fit the item to the rear. Just as a guide for you they wanted £150 all in. Fitting it yourself is the better option, but you have to be cruel to be kind initially!

Ben.

Unless you are a half blind ****wit it should be pretty easy to find and examine them. Look at the wires coming out of them, check the connectors for corrosion etc.. One will be loose or corroded.

Ben, no car makers use anti seize compound.
