I have a 1998 Marea HLX. The ABS system is cutting in frequently when it shouldn't. I suspected the sensors, and inspection of the front sensors revealed that the toothed rings which the sensors observe are seriously corroded. Any suggestions? I'm not a fan of ABS, and I don't really want to spend huge amounts of money to fix it, so my inclination is simply to remove the fuse for the ABS system and live without it.

My Marea's ABS also seems over sensitive too, but I think they are all like that.
I don't think corrosion on the pick up ring is too serious a problem, unless its severe, as the sensor works by picking up the magnetic field produced by the ring. The teeth produce slightly stronger field than the grooves on the ring.
I stand to be corrected though..

just a small point, and of no help o you at all, but if you remove the fuse for abs, it wont work. (i know thats why u wanna do it)

but think of implications, you're car will be less safe in event of an emergency, and secondly, if said emergency leads to an accident, your insurance is more than likely gonna be invalid.

worth thinkin about?
