ABS light on dash - help!

After spending a week fixing my Mrs's car, mine has now decided to play up - Bravo 1.8, ABS light is illuminated on the dashboard, and the ABS definitely don't work (managed to lock the wheels and get all diagonal this morning). So, what parts of the ABS system tend to fail the most, and where should I start looking? I understand I'm probably going to have to take it to Fiat for a diagnostic, but ideally I want to check anything obvious first before paying them 30 odd quid just to plug in a laptop.

Cheers all

On my HGT I had the ABS sensors fail on the rear wheels. IIRC, it was pretty cheap to fix. The mechanic said that if the ABS sensor goes, the whole ABS system shuts down for safety.

Use the search theres loads of stuff on this!!

I had it on exactly the same car, all YOU can do is check and clean all connections under rear seats etc... Fiat Diag will show which sensor is faulty (it is most probably a sensor) my rear cost about £70 off Fiat and they wanted £40 labour. Takes about 45 mins to fit yourself.

Cheers - tried the search, but it gave me shitloads of irrelevant threads and after 10 mins rummaging thru thought it might be quicker to ask :)

Looks like it might be a wheel sensor, will have a shufty tomorrow (weather permitting).

When my ABS warning light came on, on my Marea.
It turned out that when my local garage changed my Fr wheel bearing's due to failure, they put on the bearing's WITHOUT the ABS SENSOR in. So they had to pay their own labour charges to install the correct Wheel bearing's WITH the correct ABS SENSOR included inside.

Thought that might help you.
Robert.

Aren't the wheel bearings seperate to the ABS sensor on the Bravo. I had a bearing changed and the sensor broke as it had seized in place apparently. When i rang Fiat they told me once a new sensor had been put on the ABS had to be reset on a computer, is this true? Also anyone any idea how easy it is to change the front sensor?
