After a few months of abs/ebs warnings, and, when idle, the revs seeming erratic before stalling, i think by chance i know how to solve the problem and how it starts.
So heres the story.
When my car came out of the body shop after a bump, i noticed that these earlier problems had gone, after a week of normal driving to make sure it wasnt just a fluke.
Id previously read that the bettery could be suspect in certain problems like this, and so, i noticed that the clock was displaying the wrong time by a few hours, and deduced that the garage had disconnected the battery! Result.
But, yesterday i needed to charge my mobile battery in-car. As i arrived at work, i took the connector from the cigarette lighter and then the car's revs started to fluctuate, again!!!. So i turned off the engine, turned the key back to MAR(on the ignition) left it for a few seconds and restarted the engine. Only to hear the damned beep and the abs/ebs problem on the display. And there we have it. Charging the mobile from the in-car cigarette lighter, trips the sensors or something but can be reset by disconnecting the battery. Shame is i'm not certain of how to disconnect it myself!!??!!
