IMHO 4wd is not needed. All they need is a decent diff up front. That said, the rear suspension from a Panda 4x4 wouldn't be a bad thing :)

2WD is only good for up to around 250 bhp, above that & you spend a lot trying to fight the laws of Physics. 4wd & far more bhp is manageable & the car will be so much more controlable

f1 cars have 2wd and loads more that 250 bhp
as this car is an original 500 its rear wheeled drive and could easily handle more look at the power in some caterhams!

You can buy a RWD 500 (new 500 that is) but it will cost a lot of money and is mid-engined (as per Clio V6). Plenty of videos on youtube if you do the looking!

250bhp Fwd is nothing these days - the current usable limit is more like 350bhp and that is going up all the time.

Decent diffs, geometry and tyres are pushing the limits all the way.

The problem is more a case of steering and using the power at the same time...

Agreed but for mr numptie 4WD is so much easier & less likely to spit you off the road, Ive had 350 bhp 4WD & it was just so forgiving until you had all 4 wheels spinning, then it was "interesting" thankfully that didnt happen very often

4wd is forgiving, but I suspect the chassis with the short wheelbase with the 500 would be the limiting factor.

But where's the fun in that? One of the best bits about driving my TVR was wondering when it was going to turn on you, chew you up and spit you out...

Ive currently got a 500 bhp twin turboed 350 zed so I know what you are saying, its fun but can throw in the odd brown trouser moment as well :D.
