Hi everyone, I seem to be topping the oil up in my abarth every couple of months (about 250ml) i do about 1300 miles a month, Does anyone else do this/is this normal?, Also do lower oil levels effect the smoothness of the gear changes? just wondered if the two were linked in any way.

cheers

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Engine oil level has no effect on gearchanges whether Selespeed or not. If Selespeed there is a separate reservoir on the right hand side of the engine compartment - just aft of the battery. If manual then the oil will be sealed within the gearbox itself.

If your Stilo is new then oil usesage will be higher than when it's bedded in. On a recent high speed run up to Scotland from London mine used about 150 ml.

Quite normal based on my experience and having chatted to a mechanic about it. My Abarth seems to use a fair amount of oil; if your car is using 250ml for approx 2500 miles that would seem fine to me. Just remember to keep an eye on it and ensure you keep it topped up and above the minimum level on the dipstick.

mine seems to use around 1.5 litres for about 3000 miles. seems high to me but apparently is normal for these engines.....

finally got it fixed just yesterday and the dealer had the cheek to charge me £15 for 2 litres of oil! afetr all I have been through with it :bang: :bang: :bang:

they even had the cheek to leave a customer satisfaction survey in the car
