General Abarth / LPG conversion?

Looking to sell up, but cannot find level of kit / tiptronic / economy for a similair price bracket; so grasping at straws to keep the car!

hi thanks - i've done 22k in the last 6 months, so would benefit from it. was wondering how it affects performance (if at all) with the alternative fuel.

am i right in thinking is does not improve economy, but is just a cheaper fuel. ie, i'll still be filling up 3-4 times a week?

it will be either lpg conversion or alfa 2.4jtd.....

You are right, economy is worse, but fuel is cheaper so saving overall. LPG tanks tend to be small (unless you want to completely fill the boot with one from a Range Rover). You get 200 miles max on a tank. Also not all LPG kits are plain sailing. There are all sorts of compatibility/ strange issues with some of them. My friends LPG passat used to explode the airbox every 6 months or so (he always kept a spare in the boot). Also he had to fill about every 150 miles.

My advice - Go for the JTD, or even better get a diesel from another manufacturer that is not quite so tractor like to drive.

It doesnt effect performance at all! And even if u bought a diesel the price of diesel is more than petrol and to get a diesel equivelent of the abarth which is the 150 bhp there about 4 grand more so i dont think its cost effective.

The only thing that worrys me a bit is once i have had it done will the price of lpg jst increase to the price of petrol cos then there would be no gain whats so ever

Hi all just thought i would let you know about my LPG powered stilo. I had it converted Feb 2007, cost me £1450 and was in the garage for a week whilst they converted it. The system is quite good and i would say if you can't afford to replace your car then look in to getting it converted it if you do a lot of mileage, i do about 18K a year.

The system paid for itself by christmas because of rising fuel costs. LPG is currently around the 50p per litre mark here in Liverpool, compared with petrol, about £109 per litre. Fuel economy wise you get slightly less to the gallon than running on petrol, but it's half the price so it's a win win situation.

Performance wise, well people and also the garage have said there are no performance gains, but trust me, when it's raining or the air is damp it goes like a rocket and it's only a 1.6. I have the 60 litre donut tank in the boot where the spare weel goes.

Unfortunately i have just had to fork out £220 for new gas injector rail, one of the valves went (a common fault with the type of kit i have) that included retune and fitting. Manufacturers claimed it was dirty gass yet they still released modified injector rail:bang:.

If you are doing a lot of miles and can afford to replace your car, go for a diesel, unless of course you can't bear the thought of partin wid your pride and joy.

Right there are a few different Stilo LPG posts about when I searched, but I think I'll use this one.

I'm looking at a system for my Stilo. Alot of problem posts out there, but is this like the Stilo section in general where you always hear the bad stories but not always the good?

More interestingly has anyone any pic's of it installed in their Stilo, like the switch and gauage that goes on the dash. Where have people put it, and also, the filler pipe. On stilo is it a rear bumper or bodywork job (I'd prefer bumper, no rusting cut metal then).

It might be worth considering the fact the government has a levy on the duty which will be expiring late this year / early next year.

Not done a conversion on a stilo but driven a
Vauxhall GSI3000 six cylinder with this kit fitted
multi point injection and good bit of kit 215bhp
on rolling road on a 19 year old car.Capable of
over 140mph on private road.

Well the ole girl is going in for a conversion to LPG hybrid on Thursday

Hi,
I have converted my Stilo 1,8 in february 2008. Since that day life become cheaper. In Poland LPG cost about £ 0,39 per Liter. Even for Poland conditions it is very cheap.
Average consumption is on level 8-10 L/100km (10% more than benzin)

The whole LPG set was fitted in specialist car garage and cost £ 600.
Components:
-LPG tank (replecement for a spare wheel 45 liters)
-LPG reducer (for changing LPG liquid phaze into gas phaze)
-two filters
-injectors
-electro-valves-2pcs
-safety valve-1pcs
-emulator
-injectors control unit.
-small control unit inside the car (concluding LPG volume indicator)
-wires and pipes

LPG system starts working when bellow conditions are completely fullfilled:
- engine is warm (30°C),
- engine is working more than 30 sec.
- engine rotation speed is exceeding 1500 rpm

Notice from driving:
-frankly speaking engine power is almost the same.
-the worst thing: spare weel is in my boot
-additional inspections and operations during service
-necessity of reducer cleaning every 10000 km.
