Do they go round corners? Mine doesn't. Is it the weight of the diesel engine, the cheapness of the tyres or the age of the struts? Struts have done £160k miles but they pass the bounce test infact I can hardly push the corner of the car down....:(

My 1.9 TD handled very well. I would say you need new shocks. The rears tend to go soft on Tipos and this is where i would look first. Also, all bushes need replacing as they will be worn. Soft bushes will lead to sloppy handling. Tyres with better side walls will crisp up the handling once the suspension is refurbished. You can buy front struct inserts and even though you think there is no movement, will be amazed at the difference.
Oh just to mention, the diesel is heavy at the front, so it needs all the help it can get.

Andy:)

My Mum had a 1.6 DGT and my Dad had the 1.9 tds

Must say, the 1.6 was the better handling one of the pair...

The tyres are Stunner - a well known premium brand. My garage put these on without asking me. Bushes have been renewed - but Sumplug whats a strut insert? Is there a better retro fit brand of strut than a Genuine Part?

The front macpherson struct is expensive to replace, but the internal strut shock can be replaced for little money. Strut needs to come off and internal one removed. Best let a garage do this for you.:)

Andy.

I own a 1.4 i.e. Fiat Tipo and I' m satisfied of the way it turns. It is equipped with H&R springs - 4cm and Bilstein shock absorbers. Actually, the handling and the grip will improve even more when Ι finally change the 13inch rims fitted with 175-65/13 Yokohama S036 tyres with my new 14inch alloy rims fitted with 185-60/14 Michelin Pilot Exalto II tyres.

Whatever I do it' s certain that my car will never turn like my brother' s Toyota Corolla fitted with an adjustable suspension, however I shouldn' t forget that I' m talking about a 14 years old car that lacks of a lot technological achievements.

Was very advanced in its time. Due to platform production (chassis used on more than one car) more time could be spent on the chassis than would normally be allowed.

The hot Tipo beat the competition and reigned as the top hot-hatch not because of its 0-60, not because of its top speed, but because for a large part the perfect balance in the steering and handling.

With fresh suspension the Tipo is one of the best handling cars on the roads.

i love the way mine handles. but now i face a bit of a problem. i've got my eyes on getting an alfa romeo 164, but i've been told i'd have to get rid of the tipo before i can get a new car. i can't afford to get insured on a 1.8/2.0 tipo and i can't afford to be insured on two cars. and there's no space to store it so i'm in a bit of a predicament. decisions decisions..

its not too bad just a bit rough around the edges and lacks a bit. need to get it serviced though me thinks. god knows how long ago the cam belt has been changed and timing looked at. oh i went for ages thinking it had something wrong cos i used to see steam coming from out the front of the car. it took me a while to link its timing of happening after start up and looking at temperature gauge to realise that it was because of the thermostat opening and the condensation being evaporated as result lol. but yeah it's fine just want it to last a bit longer really.
