Hi all, I have just acquired a well used 2002 diesel multipla with most of the same issues as the rest of the forum. However it does drive pretty well for 100k plus miles. Best of all my daughter loves sitting between mum and dad! My query is this. It only came with one key. The internals of the key had been removed/lost. The code chip was still in place so no problem starting the car. I would like to have the remote central locking working. I was assured that it used to work some time in the distant past before the key fell to bits and the componants lost. I believe the previous owner as he did have it many years, was honest in his description and even put some diesel in it when I went to pick it up! I have been given another fiat key by a friend who sold his car some time ago and got left with one key. The internals fit my key so I now have an original fiat cut key with the transponder chip that has a (as far as I know) working rf transmitter from a completely different car. Can anybody tell me catagorically whether or not the rf transmitter in the key can be programmed to my car? I know that this is not re-synching as the rf module was never with my multipla. Thanks in advance for your help.

Im not sure about this...i had similar problem with my alfa key but that was a broken switch on it i still had internal bit. I bought an alfa key from ebay and used that switch on my key and central locking worked.
But i think this is a dealer job to get new key internal programmed to your car. Do you have the key code card? I could be wrong on this and i hope somebody will be able to help in here

When it was first sold there was a :

CODE CARD The car is delivered with:

❒ key (B) and key (A) when the car is fitted with door remote control.
❒ two copies of key (B) when the car is fitted with electronic alarm.

Keys are delivered with a CODE card that bears the following:

A - the electronic code to be used for emergency starting (see “Emergency starting” in section “In an emergency”);
B - the mechanical key code to be given to the Fiat Dealership when ordering duplicate keys;
C - spaces for any remote control stickers when the car is fitted with the remote control option.

Hi, Thanks for info. I have now looked through all the bumph that the guy gave me and found some more stuff I didn't notice before.

There is a key code card with the emergency code and the mechanical code.

There is also a second key that will open and close the car and also start it.

This all matches the handbook with Key A and Key B references and the Keycode card.

However, the question remains. Can the replacement RF transmitter internals that I fitted to the key from another fiat vehicle be programmed into my fiat.

If the answer is YES, Is it a cost prohibitive dealer only repair?

If the answer is NO, I will live without the remote central locking.

regards

If you got the code card i think makes easyer.
Best option would be to phone fiat dealer and ask what they can do and how much they will charge? Or find a locksmith shop that does car key and see if they can do it or if they can tell you who can do it.
Everything is possible is only a matter of price lol

Fiat keys come in a few different flavours, yours is probably a one button remote that should have a part number inside (TRW2.07479T) or similar. You can get these (Used) on Ebay but you need to get the same part number or it won't work.

You then need to get the key programmed to the car, some auto locksmiths can do this but not having a working key might be a problem.

Try this on Ebay 390404497823,

Best of luck
