Technical A funny thing happened on my way to Keswick

Driving from Blackpool to Keswick,about 50 miles in,a huge amount of smoke started coming from exhaust.Lasted about 60 seconds then stopped.No loss of power,no dash lights,continued on and made the return leg without incident.
Anyone shed any light on cause.

If it has a DPF, that is very likely a regeneration, circumstances were perfect. I would have expected the DPF light to flash during the regen, to discourage you from stopping until it finished.
