I looked up fire stick , looks very good .
Thanks for the heads up on it.
Jack

You're welcome! I have one on order, 25 second job, should be enough. I also have a fuel shut off tap in line, on the top of the fuel tank. So can turn off the fuel flow easily. I suspect the burnt out car did not.

So....as always I am keen to learn from others. With fear and trepidation of the comments I might get by posting a picture of my engine, is the general advice that I should replace all the helpfully coloured green tubing, fuel filter and clamps with suitable piping, clamps and no fuel filter?

If so, could someone in simple terms state what piping and clamps I need to order?

Thanks as always.20180415_151022.jpeg

Remove the fuel-filter---you have 3 in the system already---tank pick-up unit, top of fuel pump and top of carb. You do NOT need a 4th filter, especially in such a potentially dangerous position.
The fuel-pipe that you need will have words to the effect that it is compatible with fuel with an ethonal content---any good car excessary shop should be able to supply the correct piping.
You should use proper fuel-pipe clamps. They are designed to stay 'round' as you tighten them up---the jubilee clamp does not. The piping that you require will be either 6mm or 8mm (sorry, can't remember which off the top of my head)

Hmm Some good advice here. I generally have an extinguisher in the car - but how old is it? Not sure... The fire stick looks good. Only concern - is the reach less than a conventional extinguisher? Ie can you definitely get close enough in practice for it to be effective? Tempted by the 50 sec version.
New lines and removal of filter to follow. It's been recommended to me before; I thought I'd fit next to the tank - but reading comments here I can just leave it out completely without causing problems?
I also like the idea of a fuel line shut off valve next to the tank.

I don't know why more cars are not fitted with the fuel shut off valve. Common sense to me and not expensive compared to the cost of the car burning. Also handy in maintenance if replacing lines, fuel pump etc.
