My Multipla was given to me recently as it had broken its cambelt and was headed for the scrapyard. As I enjoy a challenge I have rebuilt it and it now runs fine and has just passed its MOT after having been stored for a couple of years which is quite amazing. Anyway, there are a few things that i wanted to check with other Multi owners as I cannot seem to sort it out from the not-so-good owners handbook.
The first is the central door locking. My model is a 52 plate 115ELX by the way. The button on the blue key locks the car and there is a longish alarm tone which i know sets the alarm. I press the button to unlock and you get an intermittent alarm tone to tell me the alarm is disarmed but the car does not unlock itself unless use the key in the lock. Is this working normally?
Secondly, the engine preheater coils on the dashboard light for maybe two or three seconds before going off. Is this normal?
Thirdly, there are various posts about resetting the service reminder. Mine says "0" miles and trying to reset it by using the method explained on this forum which is holding in the + and - buttons for 15 seconds but it just switches back to the total odometer/time display after about 10 seconds. I am clearly doing something wrong or have a different vehicle type than that described in the instructions. Can anyone help?
Thanks for your help.

One more thing. Can someone tell me whether there is a rubber seal under the cover which is on the scuttle to allow access to the pollen filter cover? The cover was missing on my car so I bought a new cover which does not have a seal on it but i found the remains of a seal laying in the bottom of the pollen filter housing which looks like it fits around the aperture in the full width black scuttle trim which the cover fits onto.
To be clear, there is a shaped cover that fits into the scuttle which is the one i am talking about and then there is a second cover which fits over the pollen filter housing which is under the scuttle cover [is this making sense] which i am not talking about. Great bit of design.

Hi.
1. Doors should open when unlocking with the blue button on the key, so something is amiss there.
2. That sounds about right (rejoice!). If the coil symbol flashes on and off for a few seconds after the engine's started, then you've got a duff glowplug(s) or glowplug relay.
3. You have to get into the service menu first. I think you hold 'Mode' in for a few seconds, the display changes to 'SERVICE', then pressing '+' or '-' cycles you through various bits of service info, some more useful than others. When you get to 'AFTER', press and hold the '+' & '-' together for about 10-15 seconds and the miles-to-service display will reset (to 12,500 miles, from memory).

Nice to hear of a Multi being put back on to the road!

Hello,

Locking your Multi by pressing the key button should produce one long 'beep' and the doors will lock. Pressing the button again should produce two shorter 'beeps' and the doors should unlock - so to echo widemouthfrogs advice, sounds that you might have a slight problem.

Our 04-plate 115 ELX - turning on the ignition the glow-plug light illuminates for about 2 - 3 seconds then the engine starts perfectly. If we don't wait for the light to extinguish but just turn the ignition key straight to start then the engine fires up just as quickly!

Can't help with your third point - after three years of owning our MP the intricacies of the trip computer are still shrouded in mystery...

Thanks very much for your replies. I have just been out to try to rest the service warning but alas my computer is not playing ball. When i hold the mode button it just goes back to the odometer setting. The service menu only seems to have 0 miles and tyre pressures.
My alarm is giving the one long beep and then walking away a second long beep. Then when unlocking i get two shorter beeps but the car stays locked so I have a problem - I just have to find out what it is.
I do not have a problem starting the car it winds a couple of times and then gets going whether you preheat or not.
Great old car. ?I just have no experience of driving one.
Thanks again
Stephen
