I'm having a bit of engine problem, when i put my foot down nothing happens, and the engine sounds like a v8 when i do. I've changed the spark plugs cause they had lead glazing even though they were only six months old. any ideas?

Not wishing to be pedantic but how could they have lead glazing? You run UL! :)

Sounds like an injector is blocked.

sorry i just meant glazing, i work in a diving shop and was talking about lead weights at the time :), do you know how to cure the problem, as fiat want to charge me £50 just forreading the error codes. I few mates have said it could be the ht leads.

Re: Re: 80sx Problems

No lights on the dash?

Could you snap a piccy of a plug and post it here.

Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

I've already replaced the plug, and all the lights on the dash are normal

Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

You binned the old plugs? If it was HT leads I would expect bad starting.

no the old plugs are at home, but i don't have internet there od a camera,

on of the plugs second in from the right had a rusty colour on the top bit the ht lead plugs into

Re: Re: 80sx Problems

would somthing like red x clean the injectors

Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

Its worth a try. Does it start, idle, cruise ok?

Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

It starts just fine, and if you keep the revs staedy at cruise, it's ok. But if you put your foot down it starts chugging and takes ages to accelerate, but if you accelerate hard in second it wil be itermitant, quick/slow/quick/slow, but this happens very quickly, not fine for a bit, then bad for a bit. i'll get some red x tonight and try that if it doesn't work i think i'll stop driving it for a bit untill the problem is solved.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

Hmmmmm... not ignition then.

Try this, next time you boot it lift the pedal a bit, say to 75% of full and tell me what happens.

Put a can of redex and a tank of BP super uleaded love juice through it.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

Cheers tom i'll get back to you tommorrow

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

dude mine is assactly the same!!!ive got a 1.4 12v the only thing different is that the injector light came on the other day but it hasnt come on since! mate if you could let me no how the red x works it would be great! cheers

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

Have you tried resetting the ECU???

I know its my answer to everything, but its free!!! :)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

Hehe!! Could be a similar thing to yours.. bloody fly by wire! Give me a throttle cable any day.. (and a pair of webers!)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

Right the red x has don't a thing yet, but will wait on it. As for holding the accelerator at 75% after putting foot down, it cruises as normal.

I know it sounds unlikely, but have the "cat" checked, the interior is fragile and can collapse.

Failing that, get it on the diagnostics - injectors and/or elecrics are the likely culprit.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: 80sx Problems

It takes a while for the redex to work. :)

When you are accelerating at full throttle, lift off a bit. It should accelerate less quickly if all is well.

Re: Re: 80sx Problems

If it was the cat it would not cruise as normal and would drink petrol. Also if the cat is badly blocked it will affect starting and idling. How many broken cats have you seen? ;)

If it was electrical there would also be starting issues, mainly when hot.

There is no point putting a car on the diag machine if the injector light has never come on while driving. The light indicates the ECU has detected a fault and the diag machine can read the stored code. No light, no fault, no code, no use.

As its only apparent when accelerating its most likely a fueling issue or a timing issue. Whever the issue is, its not yet bad enough for the ECU to moan about. If its a blockage in an injector the ECU will never know about it. If the crank sensor has slipped slightly then the ECU won't really care so won't flag an error.

Sounds to me like...........................

Sounds to me like a spark problem, But its not the plugs - In mine b4 i had them replaced the thing would stutter a lot when accelerating in low gears quickly! The response to the trottle was not slow - just less of an edge to it!

Tom - Maybe silly question but would summit as simple as oil condition cause this - i know it would on a two stroke?
