6x9's

6x9's

6x9 can be good but the factors vary. It is more difficult to set up a 6x9 because you cannot channel the sound.

On a 6x9 you have your bass, low mid, medium mid and treble depending on how many "way" your 6x9 is.

A 2-way 6x9 would only be good when used in conjuction with other components to support it.

A 4-way 6x9 can be good on its own but you almost will always have some of the mid/treble drowned out by the bass cone because they are on top of eachother. With a component set, you can place the different and ranging frequency speakers away from eachother and channel the sound in the direction you want.

6x9s can be set up reasonably but that mainly depends on your Head Unit or the Acoustics of your vehicle.

Saloons are no good for 6x9's as are most cars with no access to the boot from the cabin.

Hatchbacks allow the bass of a 6x9 to travel more ambiently so it often feels and sounds as if you have a sub just because to boot allows it to. it also means that you can turn down the bass and actually hear some mid/treble from a 6x9 if you are driving a hatchback with good acoustics.

But overall one would be able to obtain clearer sound using a componet set but one will also spend a lot more money as 6x9s are around £30 on average and a component set around £90.

It's all to do with the placement - in the parcel shelf - not good for SQ. You want sound to come in front of you not behind you. They also scream 'nick me' to any passer by.

As for it being a cheap 'sub', that is a complete waste of time IMO. For the price you would pay for a 'decent' set of 6x9s and sort out decent mountings, you can get a semi decent amp and sub combo that will outperform a set of low passed 6x9s running off a HU.
