Hello people im new to the forum and I hope you have lots of advice to give :D What im wanting to do is lower my car but im not sure how low i want to go? At present I have 185/50 R14's on, and im wanting to know whether a 60mm drop will be possible without doing any work to the arches? If i do what about 40mm will I still need the arches rolling?

SPUD!!!! u r the Spud from {GOD} clan rite? anywayz ur question ive dropped my sporting by 40mm and the back box struggles 2 get over speed humps which is y its now crooked [:(!] but apart from rubbing its fine i jus popped my spacers on on there fine n dandy now :D

Yeah it is SPUD from {GOD} who are you? (Note {GOD} best unreal tournament clan in the world ;) ) I might have a problem with my exhaust as well then, because mines a custom exhaust which is far bigger than the standard one and lower. I might have to go for 40mm then, but 60mm would be nice :D

IM (Panic out of {GOD} :D) anyway Whitterz if u got spacers on there shouldn't b a prob i only needed mine on the back but u may need the arches rolled on a 60MM dropped but i reckon u'll get away with it and i thort sportings came lower than Sx's as standard anyway so so if u dnt mind the odd cringe ova spees humps go 4 it :). I had 2 take my car down the exhaust place due 2 it blowing and the clamp was bent back ahwell £5 later and its sound gd again.

I wonder if it was you panic [8D]. Anyway im still unsure how low to go, i dont know whether to risk it and go 60mm or go 40mm. Im worried that the 40mm wont look much different to standard springs.

Follow the link to my site, mine's a sporting dropped 40mm on 175/50 13's. Might give you an idea how it'll turn out..

Well 40mm is a gd drop great handling afterwards [8D] plus its still driverble over bumpy roads etc i only have problems with steep and the cheap n nasty speed humps. The handling is great tho no body roll hehe me n a m8 took a small roundabout turning right @ 50mph front slid out but the back didn't twitch :D

my cingy is lowered 50mm and i am running on 14" at the mo, she is low, but i have had to have quite a bit of work done to my arches. also she doesn't handle to good, the back end keeps twitching.
Hope i was a bit of help.:)

If you're concerned about day to day driving, speed bumps, ground clearance and practical stuff, go for -40mm.
If you have to have looks at the expense of all else go for -60mm. Problem is, with a -60mm drop you are almost all out of suspension travel, and you'll need shorter bump stops (can be done with a hacksaw).
Mine's on -40 and I managed to seriously catch the floor on a kerb when trying to park 2 wheels up 2 down, and it wasn't that big a kerb. If you have 14"s or 15"s though it will give you more clearance (but less acceleration).

aww, why not just go for adjustable coilovers and a bigger overdraft?
