Hi
Had my 500X since new (Oct 2016) and love it, although it has an annoying issue.

One day I can unlock my car from across the car park at work and the next day it won't unlock from 5 metres away!! Sometime works first time and sometimes have to resort to unlocking the car with the key then start the engine and unlock the other doors with the internal controls.

I asked the dealer to look at it during its last service but of course issue didn't arise.

I'd like to swap the battery but I can work out how to open the (UK) remote. I can't post a link but its the rectangular shaped remote. My wife's Abarth 595 is the smaller lozenge shaped remote and works first time, everytime!

Any ideas on why the remote is playing up, how to fix it or replace the battery?

RF interference perhaps? I occasionally work at a hospital and where I park, the keyless entry does not work at all.

Where you park may have something close that affects the communication. I think they operate on 433Mhz which is also used by amateur radio.

Thanks. Sorry didn't mean to imply the issue only happens at work. That was just an example of working at "range"....

It happens anywhere in the UK. No common factors such as location, time of day or weather etc.....

Don't now anyone else with the same issue with their car (Fiat or not) As I say Mrs B's Arbarth works 100%....

Definitely sounds like a battery issue.

Try this link, others are available

Thanks. Have been googling for a video for ages but can't find a video that covers my key. Sadly that video isn't it either.

I've only ever seen 500X fobs that are a variation on that shape, but surely how to change the battery is covered in your handbook?

Thanks. No, the manual only mentions the car battery and shows the type of key in that video (keyless entry). I've sent a message to Fiat Care UK on Twitter. They are quite good. Thanks again

I still can't post links or pictures yet.

Brilliant find...I’ve no idea why they didn’t print that in the UK handbooks. This saves me from forcing keyfob open [emoji106]

Done it. Remote seems so much more responsive.
Single CR2032
Had to manually open the car start it and the turn off before it would work after the battery change. Not sure if that was meant to happen but it seems it worked.

To open the case you have to slip the screewdriver into the split in the case. Few extra scratches on the fob now. ?

If your fob is the same a mine then the way to open it is:

1) Remove fob completely from key ring so it is just the fob and no other attachments.

2) Remove the emergency key blade.

3) Looking at the slot where the blade inserts to then you will see a similar rectangular recess above/below the key slot. This is where to pry the open.

4) Use a suitable wide blade / chunky screw driver (or similar) to gently prise the case apart

Hi all, new member here so please be gentle with me, I recently purchased a (66) plate Fiat 500x lounge & the keyless entry worked fine for a short time, after a couple days it suddenly stopped, strangely enough though it works on the passenger door & boot if I’m near by but doesn’t activate or work on my drivers doors, any help would be greatly appreciated, ?

I experienced the same thing in my last Giulia. I could open the car from the moon most days, especially if you held the key to your head when you pressed the unlock butto. The thing I found was that if the car windows were frozen I would have to unlock the car with the key blade and put the key near the internal receiver to get the car started. New batteries never made it go away.
