Hi there, my sons 2009 1.4 500 75000km stopped on him a few nights back. He said it spluttered and then stalled and not able to restart it.
Had it towed home and I had a look at it.
Code reader had misfire on cylinder 3, random/multiple misfires and cam position sensor fault.
Pulled the plugs and the tip on cylinder 2 was broken off. Did a compression test, cylinder 1 was 200, 2 was 25, 3 was 45 and 4 was 70.
I stuck a scope down each and there doesn’t appear to be any piston of cylinder damage and all are raising and falling same height.

What are peoples thoughts on problem, I’m thinking either timing belt (original) has slipped and maybe valves open, cylinder head gasket.

Located in Australia.

Mmm, the timing belt should have been done 10 years ago?
I'd say pull off the head, probably bust the valves, I suffered a broken off plug tip in our old Nissan we were lucky it got blown out after several seconds making a noise
Could very well need a new head or terminal?
Also has it overheated recently?
Did you take off the top cam belt cover to see if it's snapped?

Have a new belt and water pump on the shelf just haven’t been able to
Install yet (bad back).
No over heating.
