Right, I'm going to slow my search for another gearbox and focus my attention on my current one.

Symptoms;
  • The box will not hold 3rd unless accelerating.
  • Two and Three grind unless you let the revs drop on the way down and double-de-clutch (is that how you spell it) on the way up. I assume this is a sign of the syncros having given up.
  • There is something else worth note; there is oil emanating from the join at the drive shaft to the box (underneath the rubber boot) on the offside.
  • Panda has done 93,000 but the box is newer (apparently) and only went in with the new engine about 8,000 miles ago.
Can anybody diagnose for sure these problems or give any advice as to the best course of action. Or, does anybody know of any gearbox specialist that could repair this. My garage quoted the repair job at £500, this is way way out of my budget! Help.

I have a guy that repaired my 4x4 box for £200 well short of your £500 but he's in braford, West Yorks. That was for droping the box and putting it back I supplied new clutch kit daft not to change it at same time as box was being sorted out.

give any advice as to the best course of action.

Get rid of it on ebay with a carefully worded ad. Then if you want cheap easy motoring study local scrap yards to see which is the most popular scrapper, then go out and buy one. Old pandas are ok if you get a good one or are an enthusiast who has technical/ mechanical knowhow or money to spend on it.:idea:

There's a sisely in the classified adds being broken , it has a reconditioned g.box with 20,000 miles
