Right, got it back on, mole grips done the job.

So all back together, get in the car and this is where one thinks buggar. Pole straight, but internal situation the same. No reverse, but before fixing pole, today I have managed fifth (with a bit of difficulty).

Now, I'm thinking the problem could be more serious than I first thought.

I've checked the rod from the selector lever to the top back of gearbox, which does the left to right movement, and all seems 'free' but I've to check the little rod that comes up the back of the box from the bottom to top of box with the one on the other Sisley, as that has some bends in it, but they look normal due to where its located, if that makes sense.

Jon.

Well, I've removed almost every part of gear linkage system over the last 48 hours to try and sort the problem. I managed to get 5th and have now lost it again and think it's terminal

Bit upset as I've come to the desision (and not lightly!!!) that this is probably going to be the end of this Sisley. I'm going to give it to the main stream mechanical students at college on Wednesday next week for them to try and sort it, and if they can't she'll be driven until the end of the accademic year as she is and then will become a donor

I've not made the decission lightly, but here are my conclusions as to why
  • Being an early mk2 getting parts for her is a pain
  • She needs about £300 for the next MOT (both front struts, a ball joint and probably other stuff I don't know of)
  • The gearbox is probably more than just a re-con job, and with re-con prices starting at over £300 here, plus the £300+ for the MOT, thats £600+ on a £800 car (max price of what the car was worth before).
But all is not lost. She'll sit for a bit until we've cleared our garages and then I'll take the box appart incase its something really obvious

I've also decided that I'm better of concentrating on the newer none running Sisley, which should cost alot less to get running, and has already got a re-con box etc etc and seems a better car over all.

I can then use bits (If I don't manage to eventually get the current Sisley fixed) from the current Sisley to imporve the minor bits on the newer none running one.

It as been a very hard decission to come to, and I don't want to be know as a Panda killer, but it's the only logical thing I can think of. Atleast there will be no waisted parts, because as a few people know, when I strip a Panda, it really does get stripped!

Jon. :(

P.s, just sods law that the box goes the same day that I'd finally relayed the mainbeam system to stop it from over heating :bang:

P.p.s, Trev Wednesday will be dooms day as it if I'm able to make the plains mania. :(

p.p.p.s, I promise to never take another Panda 4x4 off road again :bang:

Did anyone get to find out what the problem was with this. MY son's Sisley has the same problem. Took off all the linkages and still unable to select 5th or reverse manually. Seems the selector is inhibited within the gear box. Does anyone know the likely cause?
Yep we'll take out the gearbox and strip it but if there's someone who knows what it is do tell!! cheers

Nope - I sold the car. I'd been doing heavy off roading though and had knocked the floor around the gearbox mount on a large rock and I think this has knocked the box out of alignment slightly, thus preventing the linkages from operating properly.

What's the reg number of your sons car out of interest, not my old one is it
