Also 2.7L petrol or 3L turbo diesel sounds expensive....

My best economy in my 3.1 turbo-diesel Isuzu was 28 mpg; and it averaged less than 25.

All three FIATs sat on the drive, currently, have just about the same engine capacity in total; and we could take any two of them on the same journey as the Isuzu, and yet only use the same amount of fuel as that big 2.4 tonne lump of Japanese steel.... :D

It was wonderful to drive, though; and you could pull a house with it.... Having to put a new cylinder head in it every 50,000 miles or so was beyond a joke, though.... :bang:

I still miss it, though....

I have seen this picture over 500 times in various places on the forum.....

Despite seeing it 42 times (that must be the answer!!) just noticed - is that a gas holder in the background? Boy it did use a lot of fuel...... :p

My range rover actually had the same engine scavenged from a vauxhall Monterey

However the rangerover had a much larger front mounted intercooler and a few other tweeks including a oil tank separate to the sump to prevent oil starvation on steep gradients.

This combination of the rangerover running gear (with a suspension and body lift) and the Isuzu engine made it a formidable machine, it wasn't fast or elegant but off road it was something else and could tow a mountain

"Handling by Lotus"? My dad worked for Lotus at the time. Between working on the Elan and Esprit S3 the Isuzu stuff was left in a yard for weeks before having stiffer springs and thicker anti-roll bars. The Piazza got a 35mm drop as well. ;-)

Back on topic I still think an off road WRX could be fun.

I did consider that but it's back to the same old problem of being mum friendly though.

Not four wheel drive but has a pivoting chassis. ;)

Maybe you should get a John Deere Gator, they are cheap to run and 4 wheel. Like a off road golf buggy. All the jossers round ere ave em

Always wanted one of these.... :nutter:

Need to buy myself a border collie, first, though, to sit in the back; and a flat cap...!

Only available in LHD, unless I'm mistaken, though.... :(
