Technical 4speed v 5speed box compatability

well, i guess i know the answer but can a 5 speed box be used with the 4 speed rod linkage......

reason i ask is that the rod linkage goes under the car and the 5 speed linkage is cable internal driven......and the 5 speed has a different bracket that holds the steering rack on to bulk head, so i guess its a NO......

any thoughts if a conversion to rod linkage to be used on the 5 speed..

Earlier 5 speed boxes used the rod linkage, so it is probably possible. If not then you would just need to find an earlier 5 speed.

when you say earlier , what year ish is it...

i have a 5 speed but it was cable driven from the 1994 donor.....hence i fitted the 4 speed to the 999(yes my keyboard worked Yeh).

The change to the cable type was somewhere around mid 1993 so any 5 speed box from before then will be the rod type. 1000S and CLX models had 5 speed boxes as standard, I think it was an option on the CL model aswell.
