Hello , I'm currently buying new brake discs for my 2003 ducato . I've found the correct discs in many sites . Each site gives me a choice of diameter and say they are both compatible with my van . I can't find any info which explains the difference between size , does it matter or does the disc diameter work with the pads ?

Thanks
Have a good day

I would take the original off and measure it and purchase the same size, saves any problems and keeps it simple.

I don't think the different diameter disks can be mixed, why don't you measure your disks to make sure.

Knowing motor factors, and choices,
I'd take an old disc and old pads in with you,
Can't get them wrong that way... hopefully

Yes that's what I will end up doing . I just can't believe there is no info about the size and what the difference is .

Than for your help have a good day

I always thought it was as simple as the 280s being for the standard 'van with 15" wheels, and the 300s for the "Maxi" version with 16" wheels.

Maybe I'm wrong (I replaced the pads on an '02 Maxi years ago)

I was recently faced with a similar problem on my Skoda, and couldn't figure out how to measure accurately the disc diameter while it was still in place.
Just get three bits of scrap wood and screw them together with one screw at each join, making three sides of a rectangle. The tightness of the screws will give enough friction to use the 'jaws' of the gauge to measure the diameter. Even if the edges of the disc are rusty, it will enable you to differentiate between 280 and 300mm.

Now that sounds like a good explanation , My Ducato is a 2.8 maxi .

Thanks

ive a x250 maxi with the 16 inch wheels with the 280 discs all round the van is a 2011 model year Cheers Adam
Which weight is your payload?
After a lot of searching through auto part sites French and English , I'm finding that the different size coincides with the payload . It looks like 280 is for 11-1500kg and the 300 is for 1800 kg . I still don't feel 100% because there is always slight discrepancies in the make , model and engine size etc etc . Looks like I will have to do it the old fashioned way and measure , which feels like a ball ache , when this world of internet is so full of information (n)

...you could always run your vin number through ePER (link at the top of the page). It covers the 2003 models.

With admittedly a little bit of reading between the lines, I can't find anything of that vintage that is a maxi which doesn't appear to have 300mm front discs.

A search by vin number should give you a confirmation (though you may have to match the specific version number it gives you (Vxx) against the description for your vin against a number of final options off the parts diagrams).
