24 month service

my 24 month service is due next month.
i have been told by my local fiat dealer that it will be around £160.
is this a good price

i pay a trusted none fiat garage about £130 for a full service. Ie oil + filter, plugs, air filter, check & clear front & rear brakes, adjust hand brake etc etc etc.

i prefer a trusted none dealer garage as they actually have mechanics that work there instead of college drop out drug adicts plus they do the little things that a dealer wouldn't touch like adjust the hand brake and grease the doors. Plus when you book it in they actually know your coming and when they say pick it up you actually know it will be ready! Also you don't get speeding tickets through the post like my mum did when she had her colt gti serviced at the dealer.

Not that i'm stereotyping dealers or their mechanics or have anything against them in any way!

Same here, once the warrenty or garauntee is over, I cant see any advantage of going to a fiat garage for a service. I would much rather go to a local garage who depends on giving a good servie to keep in business, rather than a dealer who makes a profit from selling you the car in the first place and then quite often hires YTS lads to do the work on the cars and charges you over the odds.

I would pay more for a second hand car with full service history over a car with none, BUT, wouldnt pay more for a car with full fiat history over a car with other garages full history.......hope that makes sense

i agree with what your saying, however the reason people pay more for a full fiat service history is 1) people think it's better, but more importantly, 2) it represents a certain standard. It may not be a great standard, but a standard none the less. If your service book is full of stamps from unknown garages for all the buyer knows you could have gone to staples once a year and have a £5 stamp made up to make the book look pretty.

I look at it like this, if you want to keep the car in good nice for you find somewhere you trust, if your more interested in what you'll get for the car when you sell it and the next person that owns it go to a dealer.

I did my Service myself.

knowing ian his book probably has a different stamp for every 50 mile service


I wanted know how the reset teh service light on an astra once, found the info on a website which had a big disclaimer at teh bottom stating that turning the service light off did not replace doing a service.

I had my 24,000 mile service done at a Fiat dealer they quoted me £220. I got in touch with Peter Jones ( Fiat Motor Club Chairman) and he told me it was about the going rate.
When the service was done I paid £160 coppers.
The mechanic who done my service hadn't put the oil filler cap back on properly and I had oil spray all over the engine. Plus the oil level was low. BASTARDS!

i go to my trusted mechanic 30 miles away for work done to my car (1999 S reg 1.6 SX). They have a performance parts shop (an affiliate of P.O.T.N) and a separate garage.

I took the other car (2001 Y Corsa SRi 16v) to Vauxhall for it's first service and never again. I take this one too to my mechanic every 6 months.

As much as i love vauxhalls, i would trust their mechanics as much as i'd trust an AIDS infested hooker.

Patrick, who cares about the stamps.

I paid £1900 for my '99 T reg (29k) 1.2 16V Bravo.

Has service history upto 20k or so, and has all the books and keys, so I wasn't really complaining! - However I did try to haggle (LOL).

At that price I couldn't care less about stamping the service book!

Cheap is nice.

Oh, and since my de-cat modification; I get 40.8mpg around town and around the region of 56-60mpg on the motorway. (If I keep below 70mph)
