Technical 2015 Ducato Multifunctional Steering wheel fit

Hi Lee, Just wondering if you resolved the multifunction wheel issue and if so could share any details?
Many Thanks, Terry

I’m not sure I follow your question, the MES is the Multi Ecu Scan software and interface that you use to access the fiat system Bus.

Hi AMJohn,

Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Apologies if my question was confusing. I have since researched a bit more and understand what the MES is now.
I have also discovered that you can get the remote control buttons alone and fit them to the existing steering wheel. Is this something you came across and was there a possible snag?

Hi, no I just went straight for the steering wheel, as I needed to replace original with the leather wheel anyway.
Also I’m not totally convinced that MES may be needed, the buttons seemed to work without reprogramming, in fact whatever setting I used in MES they just worked so worth a try without it, phone buttons did not and would not work, this is probably down to the connect 2 interface that’s also needed. Be sure that the connects 2 is the correct unit for your particular van, there are a few variants and without the correct one it will not work, I had to use the connects 2 for a van without a factory radio fitted.

Hi, Interesting re whether MES is needed or not. Just one more question, well a two part one anyway.

a) Does the rear connector of the clock spring fit into an existing Fiat block connector in the dash and therefore lead to another block connector via the ECU behind the head unit, for the Connects2 to fit into or

b) does part of the rear Clock Spring connector plug into the Connects2 adaptor?

Clock sprin plugs into existing fiat connector in steering assembly, connects 2 connects to the main wiring harness behind the radio.
IMPORTANT; make sure the connect2 unit is the correct one for your vehicle/year, to do this you need to identify what radio unit was in originally ie. factory or third party.

Thank you for confirming. My radio is third party not a factory fitted one.

Thanks a again. I will report back once I have all things together, although this may take a couple months before I get started, due to being very busy.

If it’s a third party radio (from new, ie. as designed to take a third party) then the connects 2 unit you need is the one described as open

Ahh, then it might not be the ‘open’ module, it might be the pioneer/fiat coded one, I tried the pioneer/fiat module but it would not work, I ended up using the
Connects2 CTSFA010.2 Stalk Adapter for Fiat Ducato 2012> 2014 module and it worked fine.

Basically it depends on whether fiat set up the interface already for a pioneer unit or whether they left it ‘open” for any unit.

They year of the van might also be specific to matching the module, as fiat changed the ecu bus around 2015/2016 I think, in the end it’s a bit of trial and error.

I’ve got a New spare pioneer/fiat module (Connects2 CTSFA008.2 Steering Wheel Stalk Control Adaptor For Fiat 2008-2014 )If you wanted to give that a try I could send, if yours is a later year it probably won’t work as ecu bus changed, if it does works then you can have it for £30, if not just return it, if that helps ?.

From your position I think it would be worth just fitting the clock spring, then fitting the connects2 and see if it works, going back to what I said earlier, mine worked whatever setting I had the multi ecu programming for the wheel set at, so I think that bit may mot be needed, just accepting the phone buttons don’t work.
