Hello Folks,
I have one of the regular problems with my wifes 500L of the battery light coming on, followed by the EPS failing.
This can happen at any time under any driving conditions, it's rectified by turning the engine off and back on again.
It may not recur for two to three weeks sometimes longer, or it could present itself two or three times in a short journey.
Speed, turning or pulling away has no impact it's totally indescriminate.
As my wife is disabled it causes her major problems as she is unable to steer the car as she doesn't have suffient strength to manage without the power steering!!!. The car is ideal for my wife as it is to get in and out of, comfortable qnd easy to drive.
The alternator failed which has been replaced, as has the battery, which was not of Stop/Start amperage.
The problem is always preceded by the battery warning lamp presenting, which does allow a few seconds to pull over before losing EPS. There are no other warning lights or messages. Stop/Start also seems to function ok.
There are no fault codes for steering and the only occaisional fault that shows up is can bus communication.
Checking this out via the obd socket suggests there is low voltage on the CAN low circuit, god only knows where that may be!
However I am reasonably sure the fault lies in the earthing system, as such can anyone confirm that it is ok to replace the quick release earth connection on the battery with a conventional bolt on one?
Apologies for the 'War and Peace', but should I be able to resolve this, it may be benificial to others.
