Hi all,

Not posted in a while sold my old Fiat Ducato motorhome and went to a caravan for the last 4 years, anyway need your brains again.

Purchased a 2010 converted to campervan Ducato, it was previously a mini bus but it’s fitted with a tacho and the speedo isn’t working.

What’s needed to…….

1) Remove the tacho if possible and revert back to as it was before.
2) If tacho isn’t possible to get removed how do I get the speedo working.
3) I presume the van may have a VSS fitted somewhere and read loads of info.

So is there a sensor fitted to these vans and if so where is it, gearbox or fitted to the ABS?

I’ve looked at manuals and pics online and can’t find out what’s on my van and where is it located but would like the tacho removed if possible.

Thanks all.

Hello,

That's what FIAT says about the instrument panel and the tacho in their eLearn module. It's for the x250 3 liter diesel EUR4 version, which a 2010 should be I assume.

Reading the above diagrams I presume that because the tacho is a factory fitted item it cannot be removed?

The tacho sensor is coming off the gearbox so can anyone confirm that this sensor below on eBay is the very same that I would need.

As I see it the tacho gets its speed readings from the gearbox sensor but standard speedos without tacho gets their speed from the ABS sensor on the wheel hubs.

So if the tacho was removed the whole wiring system would have to be installed to the ABS to work speed wise.

I may be wrong but that’s how I see it so I’ll just have to look at the tacho speed sensor, can’t at this moment though as the van is in a workshop getting work done.
