Just been to the garage to collect my motorhome after it had a new clutch fitted.

Upon arrival the mechanic advised me that the new clutch bearing had broken and it was likely that they would have to remove the gearbox to fit new one.

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Is it possible that they fitted it incorrectly?

Any advice would be appreciated

if the garage fitted the new clutch they should have it working ok they cannot return the van not fixed as they would not have done the job properly

If it broke because it was faulty its an issue between them and the supplier, more lightly it broke due to in correct installation. Either way its their problem. Unless you supplied the kit I suppose.

I did not supply the kit, so it is thier problem.

I was going to be charged 8 hours labour for the fitting. I assume they cannot charge me more for any additional time needed to correct the problem?

I'm just trying to be prepared for any problems

They are trying to stitch you up!
They had a faulty item/part or fitting. It is between them and the supplier of the part.
The supplier of part will replace part after testing, but not cover labour.
The garage are trying to cover its' loses by getting you to cough up even more!

Your contract was to replace the clutch with a working one of serviceable quality.
They haven't done so yet!

They do the job - and suck up the costs themselves.

your alternative it to be the sucker yourself and cover their losses.

I was quoted 8 hours for fitting the clutch pre the problem and that is all I intend to pay.

I don't think they are trying to stiff me. But I will be cautious

Thanks for the advice

New clutch fitted, bearing failed when mehanic took it for a test drive. Bearing replaced. All OK

But power steering pipe was damaged in the process. They were very rusty. They have been replaced.

Now back on the road.
