a mate of mine has a Marea 1.6 16v and recently the injection light came on and its now running really rough.
He had the AA out last night and they told him there is a spark to all plugs and advised to get it to a garage for diagnostic.
He phoned 2 garages this morn who are not able to look at it til after new year, but both told him that it will need a new injector and will be about £300.
I am a bit dubious that they can say what is wrong without looking at it as i thought that the injection light could indicate several different faults.
Does anyone know if that is likely to be correct?
also is there anything else he should check before going ahead and taking it to the garage?
last of all if it is the injector, is it an easy job to do yourself?
Thanks

Please don't pay that kind of money on such a problem which is in turn inadequately identified!

My Nanna did the same, 400 pound later the car was not fixed and left to Rot,

Now the Marea 1.6 sx is under my care and fully operation so i may be able to help you out here!

Looking at the manifold setup on the Marea it looks a pig to change an injector, can you or your friend get hold of a multimeter to test the resistance of the injectors? best way to diagnose injector fault!

A coupe of things that make the 1.6 act like a pig are 1) Dirty idle control actuator, 2) Dirty/Soaked MAP sensor, i've been having issues all months around with my MAP getting soaked in some liquid? i have the metal manifold and i think its having a condensation effect on the unit, and 3) Faulty crank sensor could make it run dodgey iirc,

Has he had the cam belt changed recently?

Welcome :D

Greets
Migs-

thanks for the info, the car is actually due a cambelt soon, could that be it?
thanks again and happy new year

Could have possibly slipped a tooth, not sure how accurate this is?
