Technical 2000 Ducato 2.8 Problems

We've just picked a 2000 Ducato camper, advertised as needing a wee bit of a clean & a slight crunch on the box.

About 20 miles up the road, the fuel gauge went from 1/4 to full to empty! The taco packed in and after another 10 miles the temp gauge had a bit of a flicker. The box crunches in every gear & the wife is going to kill me...

Any ideas on the electrical faults? I know the syncro mesh is a common fault & should last a fair bit (fingers crossed), so I'm not too worried on that score. A wee bit of a clean to one person is a deep clean to me & I'm not a clean freak!

You definitely need to get the oil out of the box immediately and overfill it as describe on the forum. I wonder has it had an engine transplant? What engine have you got?

As far as I can see its the original engine, the 2.8 diesel with 96k on it.

I'll take a look for the box thingy.
