The clutch pedal on my motorhome appears to be riding high and the slightest pressure on the pedal causes the clutch to slip. I hope this is not a sign of clutch wear as the vehicle has only covered 20k from new.
I notice there is no form of slack adjustment, I assume it is self regulating. Whilst under the dash I noticed an electrical switch was operated by the return movement of the clutch pedal, does anybody know what function this performs.

Many thanks, mike89

I found this old post by searching for "clutch Switch" as my son had a problem at the weekend while returning home in my motorhome - he couldn't select first or second gear after stopping at a junction. He managed to set off in third and all was OK after that. He said that he thought that the clutch pedal was part way down and had pulled it up with his foot. I checked all round today and could find nothing wrong but noticed the switch which intrigued me as I couldn't understand what it could do. As I say I searched on here with no luck so I searched elearn and it showed 2 results.

The first mention is for Cruise Control - if you press the clutch cruise control is disengaged - that makes sense but as I don't have cruise control it is not for me.

The second mention is for engine running rough - along with many other options is the solution is to replace the clutch switch if indicating faulty? So what is that about?

Any ideas on his not being able to select First or Second for just the one instance?

Hi, I think you will find that the switch on the clutch tells the ECU that the clutch is disengaged and the ECU adjusts the fuel to the injectors to tick over settings. Mine is faulty and the effect is when you change from first to second the engine doesn’t die back as fast, so you get a bit of a roar like the older transit vans used to do.

Not sure about your clutch problem not engaging gear can be a sign of clutch wear, but maybe your son was riding the clutch and it just got too hot.

Hi,

Had the same problem with the clutch slipping very slightly, taking a moment to come down revs when changing up and also increasing slippage noticable with slightest pressure on the pedal in 5th gear.
Decided to have the clutch changed ( at 20K ! ) on my 2.8jtd motorhome as I had got stuck once or twice and 'burned' the clutch to the point of smelling/smoking. Also there was slight signs of oil spray under the gearbox/flywheel housing.

The gearbox oilseal was found to be weeping slightly and was changed and the clutch friction plate was blackened and a bit thin on one side - but not worn out.

Changing the clutch has stopped it slipping but it still rides at the top of the clutch pedal travel.

I also wonder if having had the engine re-mapped ( at good old TB Turbo's ! ) to 160bhp puts excessive strain on the clutch ?
