Hello everyone lm Martin .
I'm told I have a fiat ducato 2.8 jtd engine in my peugeot boxer
Which has an issue with a metal coolant pipe that crosses the top of the engine
Part number 13147q0
Unfortunately this has been discontinued and I cannot source it in any of the breakers as it was a common part to fail
It connects to rubber hoses on both sides
Have any of you come across this issue and what was your solution
Any advice greatly appreciated
Thanks Martin

If I remember correctly, @FreeSpirit was advised that this was the most common part to fail on Australian based 2.8jtd engined vehicles. I think that he reported replacing with reinforced rubbet hose.

Hi Martin , gonna be honest , my understanding is the 2.8 uses generic parts , so if thats totally correct , i suggest you take a look on the Coastal motorhomes webpage , over here in the UK . I've just checked , and they are showing stock of new water pipes for the tdi , at 22 quid .

I replaced mine on a 2.8 tdi , year 2000 a couple of years ago , and had one . I believe they are a pattern part , and i did have problems fitting , but this turned out to be caused by the gasket . Mine was supplied with two , a thick one , and a thin one . I used the thick one and it didn't fit . Even stumped a friend of mine who was a mechanic . So i sourced the original part , from Fiat at an extortionate price and that didn't fit either , at which point my mate asked about gaskets . Changed to the thin one and the pipe fitted without issues . I will warn you though it's a right basket to fit , if you catch my drift !

Caution , is that a photograph of the failed pipe ! .

If that's so , the information i've just given is duff . My guess is that's some kind of heater hose , i believe i have the rubber hose closest to the camera here somewhere . It was supplied by mistake as my schematics show this is fitted to my van , it's not ! . Other than that , i don't recognise the pipe .
The information i've just given is for the metal pipe at the back of the engine between the pump and thermostat housing , and does not match the picture . Save for two much smaller metal pipes fitted in the oil cooling circuit , the only metal pipe fitted in the 2.8 cooling circuit on my van . This part is now of an age , where they are beginning to also fail .
I do have a by-pass hose that fits across the top of the engine , which runs from the expansion tank to somewhere around the thermostat housing area , but i'd have to check where the actual termination point is . It's a small bore rubber hose , with an internal diameter of about 10-15 mil . This part is also not available , though i was able to match up a new part from a different Fiat van cooling system , trouble is , i can't remember which model .

Hi Airwave
Thanks for the information
Everywhere I've tried saying pipe discontinued
On the parts diagram it's number twelve
My mechanic has done a temporary fix on it for now
Search goes on

Hi
My post back in 2010 & previously was in regard to preventing the cracking of the steel pipe. As the spare parts lady had said this was the most frequently part failing on a 2.8 JTD. I could see why, with the engine running, it is not supported enough.

From my previous post on changing the the Timing Belt on the 2.8 JTD - https://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/218539-2-8-jtd-timing-belt-replacement.html which has relevance to this problem.

Quote
"I also removed the bracket bolted to the intake manifold behind the valve cover as it has some wiring harness retaining clips & two studs with nothing attached to either which hinders easy removal otherwise.
NB: On reinstallation of this bracket I bent the mounting lugs (& removed the studs) so that the two large plastic wiring loom clips could be used to support the coolant bypass pipe that crosses over from the thermostat housing to the front of the engine. This was done because I had asked the parts department at the local Fiat dealer what was the most common thing that went wrong with the 244 Ducato. Apparently out here, it is this pipe cracking from the vibration - which it certainly does, I was told it was $400!! to replace. Think I would use a rubber hose instead for that money."
Hope this elaborates on the problem"

Cheers

Hi all,

Interesting reading. I have a 2006 Boxer 2.8 HDI with a small coolant leak on that exact metal pipe as shown in the original post. I too am completely unable to find a replacement part, and the part # listed in original post as "13147q0" isn't throwing anything back. Is the advice still to replace with a reinforced rubber hose and route safely away from the main engine block? Martin did you ever have any joy?
