Hi,
I thought I had a stuck wastegate, However, as I started to free it up, eventually, the rod came away from the pin that should have a splitpin or circlip but now that section has disappeared down into the turbo housing.

I have not started the vehicle up.
I presume I will have to get a replacement turbo for it? Which will also mean getting a recovery to the local garage for them to replace it too.
Has similar happened to anyone else by any chance and if so, what did you do to eventually remedy it?

Vehicle is a 8140.47 2.5td in a 1997 Ducato chassis, on a Hymer A class body, so it is not the most easy thing to access.

I wouldn't replace the turbo because of a minor issue like that.

You can remove the turbo from underneath its only a few nuts and bolts, if the manifold nuts are very corroded you might need to use a nut splitter on them.

Alternatively its possible to leave the turbine housing attached to the manifold and split the turbo centrally. You'll probably need to split it anyway to put back in the wastegate.

Penetrating oil asap for either method and leave it work for as long as you can.

If for some reason you can't fix it I may have the correct turbo for it.

Thanks Corcai,
I will see if I can split the housing tonight and see if all parts are still inside.
Is it normal that this can drop inside, or is it likely that the shaft has came away from the wastegate flap? I was only ever getting around 0.6bar boost.

Just spotted your post. If you still have that turbo, please reply to this. Or send me a private message. Er, somehow ... not sure how

I still have the turbo but just moved house so it might take some finding. You know yourself it will be in a box marked kitchen utensils or something ?

OK. Please send me the model ID number(s) if and when you come across it.

Kitchen utensils, eh? Maybe I could fashion a replacement out of spatulas ... :chin:
