Well just about to hit 100K miles on our 2003 Uylsse and the crankshaft pulley has gone again.

I've ordered a replacement pulley but the question is which way is the bolt thread?
The aux belt tensioner position indicates the pulley rotates clockwise normally so I suspect the bolt is reverse threaded so it normally tries to tighten.
But it's done up very tight so I want to be sure when I start hammering it I'm going the right way!

Thanks

Well in part answer to my own question I can see the bolt has an "L" printed on it so I'm taking that to mean Left handed thread.
But the forst attempt with the car in gear and brakes held on just has too much wind up in the engine to get enough pressure on it.
So I'll have to look at some way to lock the engine some how.....
Maybe starter motor out?

Well despite having L marked on the blt it was in fact a righthand thread!
Had to remove the starter motor to jam the engine but the bolt eventually came undo.
Quick and easy to replace the pulley (the new one is a different design so hopefully will last longer)
And all seems to be fine now.
