Technical 1991 126p Steering Play

I have noticed there is play in the steering from when the steering shaft enter the gearbox. Like the input turns like 1/4 turn before it translates to the output shaft of the steering gearbox. How would I be able to tighten that up so there is not so much slop?

If it looks something like this one, then hopefully if you slacken the lock nut in the photo and turn the screwdriver slot clockwise it should start to take the slack out.
Only do a very small amount at a time, then retighten lock nut jack car up and check if it turns freely all the way in both directions with no tight spots.
You may have to do this procedure several times, but the important thing is not to do it too much and if you get to a point where it starts to tighten even a tiny bit , back it off a little and retighten the lock nut.
If over adjusted you could end up going into a bend and not being able to straighten the steering!!!!
If it tightens but you still have play in the steering box then it indicates wear inside the box which would need an overhaul.

Yes that is what it looks like thanks for the information. Now when you say turn a little at a time are we talking alike a 1/4 turn after I loosen the jam nut or less then that?

It is all trial and error, I would say mark the original position and try an 1/8th of a turn at a time and don't force it.
In the old days I have adjusted many before most vehicles went to rack and pinion steering.
Don't forget to secure the lock nut each time as it affects it.
