Hi . Can anyone help please. My 1978 Spider 1800 American import has 2 electrical issues . Firstly I’ve replaced my ignition switch wiring
50 Red 30/1 Black 15 Pink 30 Brown INT Blue
My problem is on position to remove key the dash lights are on therefore draining the battery
Secondly my Hazard lights don’t work I’ve bought 5 different relays all supposedly for my car and I’m getting different results ie indicators working no Hazards or dash indicator lights constantly on etc I even tried an old Land Rover relays which worked for a few days but then stopped working. I would appreciate any advice
Kind Regards Alan1960

What was wrong with the wiring (or operation) for you want to replace it ?

Was it working normally before you replaced the wiring ?

Do you still have the original relay?

and were the hazards faulty before you replaced the relay ?

Hi . The hazards haven’t worked since I bought the car . The only time I got them to work briefly was with the Land Rover relays.
As for the ignition switch occasionally turning the key absolutely nothing but when I lightly touched the barrel it suddenly worked. I checked the wiring all seemed fine so I narrowed it down to the ignition switch

Ahhh I read it as you'd "replaced your ignition switch wiring", not the switch itself

As per diagram I’m sure the connection are wired correctly but you never know if there has been some re wiring over the years. As for the hazard relay can anyone help me with a part number ?

First you need a manual with a relevant wiring diagram
Next you need a multimeter to measure voltage and continuity

You can bypass the ignition switch at the 5/6 way connector at the stg column. You need a wiring disgram to work out where to put jumper cable inthe switch block. The main things are the ignition circuit and starter motor circuit. None of these circuits have fuses, all have large cables to carry a high current so do not attempt this if you don’t know what you are doing

The hazzard circuit needs to have the correct resistance for the flasher unit. Ex USA cars had side markers and side repeaters in the wings. These are often removed and the reduction in bulbs changes the circuit resistance. In my case the indicators and hazards flashed much slower when I removed the front side repeaters and changed the circuit resistance

You can remove the ignition switch and disassemble it to check the wiring connectors. The switch has to be in a specific position and this enables you to push in a lock tab and remove the key barrel

Thanks for your advice I’ll give it a go today
