Hi guys,

I’ve got a mk2 16v on which the HT leads were completely knackered.

So we replaced the leads and I had a spare MAPCO coil laying around, so I changed that as well.

Silly me, saw the number markings on the coil and thought it was a no brainier to reinstall.

However, now I’m rather confused about what is termed 1-2-3-4 on the coil.

Does it go my firing order, 1-3-4-2 from the left (timing belt) to right (ignition coil), or does it simply go 1-2-3-4 from left to right?

I tried to Google pictures of the 16v without the air box fitted, but literally every picture I find has the leads going to different places on the coil.

Currently, they are installed as per the thread below, leftmost being 1, then 2 and 3 and ultimately 4 on the far right.

Anyone know?

The numbers on my coil are the same as your photo. Cylinders 1234 left to right go to those numbers on the coil (without taking the air filter off because the plastic clip shows the order of the cables and I always have it that way).

So basically like this? (8v engine, but for illustrative purposes let’s just assume it’s a 16v :D )
