i booked my 1.8hlx in today to get the cam belt and tensioners done and i have been quoted £140+vat is this too much???
i thought it sounded a lot but he also quoted me £20+vat to fit a new starter [just labour], which i thought was reasonable?????

deal

The "kit" for a JTD cambelt (same as 1.6) costs £120 inclusive. I suspect a belt for 1.8 might be slightly more expensive. If this is the case, you have either not been quoted for labour or you are getting a very good deal. Try asking Fiat, they'll probably charge you double.

mine

got my cambelt canged on my 1.8hlx for £130 ish. that included a £40 belt and a £30 tensioner. got it done at a local fiat specialist (hexham, northumberland). much more than that is a rip off. fiat themselves wanted £200+ to do it.

Alright rob, just got my cambelt, tensioner and pulley done for £150, but apparently they done me a deal. The guy at Reg vardy (I KNOW !!!) said that i was getting it for about 1/2 price. I was'nt too happy because i'd only had the car 6 months (97 brava 1.8elx), so i threatened to kick hi c**t in (only kidding).Hope this helps

sorted

i phoned a local fiat specialist and he insisted i did not change the tensioners but if i did it would cost £195 inc the belt labour vat etc!so went bak to the original garage and hes also fitting my eibach springs and anti roll kit for £100 which i thought was pretty good...
