My 5 year old 119 JTD Multipla has started hesitating when I am trying to pull away. Its crawls for 4-5 seconds whilst I floor the accelerator then suddenly recovers and shoots off. It has only just started and happens when I am waiting in traffic jams then want to move off. I had a new fuel filter fitted today and they said there is nothing obviously wrong that they could see but it is still doing it. Also, found some oil on the drive this morning - related?

Any ideas or even just a bit of cheering up would be gratefully appreciated

Warm the engine then give it max revs for 15/20 secs and see if that improves it.
If it does, then blank off the EGR.

HI - I have to do that to get it to move off. Clouds of white smoke and eventual movement. Do you think cleaning the EGR would do the job?

Am I right in thinking the 05 model with the nose job is the more difficult to reach EGR?

thank you

You are, easier to blank off than clean and no trouble in the future!

On the 'nosejob' Multis I must admit it is a real pain to clean as it as the back of the engine bay and a couple of the Allen bolts are a real s*d to undo/put back - have to do it all by touch!

Anyway, I am thinking that I may also blank off the valve in the future but I was just wondering if there was a preferred point to do so - before/after the EGR unit?? Also, what is the best material to use? Some seem to have used tin cans and others a thicker steel plate. Could I use an aluminium plate as I happen to have some? Is corrosion an issue? Should we really use stainless steel?

Cheers

I did this the other day, only took 30 mins including making the blank.
You only have to remove 3 bolts that connect the crinkly pipe to the valve and then loosen the 4th, the crinkly pipe will move away enough to get the gasket out. Use this as a template, I made mine from an old tobacco tin lid.
Easy job and make a big difference.

Hi - have blanked off the EGr and the car runs much better now. The only things I have noticed are -
Smell of fumes in the car slightly
Slight hesitation from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th and
Engine fan seems to be constantly on though gauge showing good

Could any of these be related?

thanks

Hi

Exactly the same happened on mine, first this started and then it would lose power when driving along. Took it to fiat who put it on the monitor and was told nothing was wrong, then looked on here and found it was the EGU solenoid. They charged my £147 for changing it and no trouble since.

The man in service then admitted that they had seen this a few times, apparently it is to do with the carbon that is recycled blocking the system.

Pity they didn't admit to this before they charged me the £50 to have it tested....

Good luck
